Accountant

Summary

Sugar & Spice Ltd. is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to assist in leading and streamlining our accounting operations. The ideal candidate should be organized, knowledgeable in Jamaican tax laws, proficient in QuickBooks and willing to work in a collaborative work environment in our growing company.

Responsibilities

• • Oversee daily company accounting operations, including reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close.
• • Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements (NHT, NIS, PAYE, GCT, etc.).
• • Prepare accurate financial reports and manage budgeting and forecasting processes.
• • Streamline accounting systems and implement efficient workflows
• • Assist in preparation of bi-weekly payroll for regular employees and monthly payroll for salaried employees.
• • Liaise with external auditors, external financial institutions and government agencies as needed.
• • Supervise and support junior accounting staff.
• • Assist with entering of expense bills and other financial documents and data integral to the preparation of financial reports and statements.
• • Handle the administration of petty cash accounts, ensuring accurate record-keeping, timely replenishment, and adherence to internal control procedures.

Qualifications

• • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration/Management or other related field
• • Master's degree in Accounting or CPA certification is a plus
• • Minimum of 5 years in a senior accounting role
• • Strong proficiency of QuickBooks accounting software and Oasysoft Payroll processing
• • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and Jamaican tax laws, payroll regulations and financial reporting standards
• • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Outlook
• • Registered Food Handlers Permit (will be required upon hire)
