Responsibilities
Reporting to the Chief Legal and Enterprise Risk Officer, the Legal Officer – Recovery will have responsibility for managing the Company’s portfolio of recovery cases, ensuring timely resolution, while playing a key role in:
- • Identifying and pursuing recovery opportunities.
- • Assessing, negotiating, and managing third-party recoveries, subrogation, and reimbursement claims.
- • Drafting and reviewing court pleadings.
- • Ensuring that claims are initiated before the Courts of Law in a timely manner.
- • Representing the Company in litigation and alternative dispute resolution processes.
- Legal Recovery:
- • Drafting demand letters, settlement agreements and court documents.
- • Preparing legal files and briefs for external Attorneys.
- • Liaising with external Attorneys on legal recovery matters for the Company.
- • Handling subrogation claims and negotiating settlements with third parties, insurers, or legal representatives.
- • Providing general legal support and assistance.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- • Tracking and reporting on the progress of recovery and performance outcomes.
- • Analysing recovery data to identify opportunities for process improvement.
- • Ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies throughout the recovery process.
- Other duties:
- • Supervise and guide the Claims Recovery Officer, ensuring effective performance, productivity, and professional development.
- • Takes initiatives to perform all other related duties to ensure recovery on behalf of the Company
- • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Legal and Enterprise Risk Officer or other designated manager or supervisor.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
- • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) to actively engage customers, third parties and other stakeholders
- • Strong negotiation, analytical and problem-solving skills
- • Ability to work independently and manage high-volume caseloads.
- • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word)
- • Project management skills
- • Detail oriented
Preferred Qualifications
- ★ Bachelor of Laws, Legal Education Certificate and current Practicing Certificate from the General Legal Council
- ★ Minimum 1 year experience working as an Attorney-at-Law and practicing litigation. Experience working in the insurance industry is an asset.
