Legal Officer – Recovery

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chief Legal and Enterprise Risk Officer, the Legal Officer – Recovery will have responsibility for managing the Company’s portfolio of recovery cases, ensuring timely resolution, while playing a key role in:

• • Identifying and pursuing recovery opportunities.
• • Assessing, negotiating, and managing third-party recoveries, subrogation, and reimbursement claims.
• • Drafting and reviewing court pleadings.
• • Ensuring that claims are initiated before the Courts of Law in a timely manner.
• • Representing the Company in litigation and alternative dispute resolution processes.

• Legal Recovery:

  • • Drafting demand letters, settlement agreements and court documents.
  • • Preparing legal files and briefs for external Attorneys.
  • • Liaising with external Attorneys on legal recovery matters for the Company.
  • • Handling subrogation claims and negotiating settlements with third parties, insurers, or legal representatives.
  • • Providing general legal support and assistance.

• Documentation and Reporting:

  • • Tracking and reporting on the progress of recovery and performance outcomes.
  • • Analysing recovery data to identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • • Ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies throughout the recovery process.

• Other duties:

  • • Supervise and guide the Claims Recovery Officer, ensuring effective performance, productivity, and professional development.
  • • Takes initiatives to perform all other related duties to ensure recovery on behalf of the Company
  • • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Legal and Enterprise Risk Officer or other designated manager or supervisor.

Required Skills

• • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) to actively engage customers, third parties and other stakeholders
• • Strong negotiation, analytical and problem-solving skills
• • Ability to work independently and manage high-volume caseloads.
• • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word)
• • Project management skills
• • Detail oriented

Qualifications

• • Bachelor of Laws, Legal Education Certificate and current Practicing Certificate from the General Legal Council
• • Minimum 1 year experience working as an Attorney-at-Law and practicing litigation. Experience working in the insurance industry is an asset.
