Microbiologist
Summary
We are looking for a Microbiologist to monitor the microbial integrity of all aspects of the process. This individual is responsible for ensuring the microbial quality and safety of our products throughout production by monitoring yeast health, detecting contaminants, and maintaining strict hygiene standards. The ideal candidate will conduct microbiological testing, analyze data, and provide insights to optimize fermentation, make recommendations, and facilitate intervention; Through proactive quality control and collaboration with brewing and packaging teams, you will help maintain product consistency and uphold industry regulations.
Responsibilities
- • Ensure safe procedures are followed in all analyses, complying with HEINEKEN Safety, Food Safety, Sustainability, ISO, and regulatory standards.
- • Contribute to and implement the Micro and Hygiene strategy, acting as the site hygiene champion.
- • Manage the Microbiology Lab, overseeing daily activities and ensuring accurate testing and reporting of microbiological results and trends.
- • Provide scientific expertise on microbiology methodologies, ensuring the brewery’s micro and hygiene standards are maintained to protect brand integrity.
- • Monitor and address micro and hygiene issues, troubleshoot problems, and maintain high-quality standards across the site.
- • Complete inter-laboratory proficiency schemes for microbiology and adhere to Heineken’s Lab Star System.
- • Support yeast propagation schedules and contribute to the annual QA Lab budget.
- • Investigate new technologies, methods, and analysis techniques related to microbiology in the food and beverage industry.
- • Apply Manufacturing Excellence tools (e.g., RCPS, 5S, SPC) to enhance site performance.
- • Conduct internal audits and consumer complaint investigations as needed.
Required Skills
- • Three or more years of pratical Micro Laboratory experience in an ISO 9000 environment.
- • Knowledge and understanding of ISO 9002, HACCP and ISO 22000 implemnetation
- • Detailed Knowledge of microbiological methods, techniques and standards
- • Ability to identify and address microbiological and hygiene issues quickly, providing solutions to maintain quality standards
- • Experience conducting internal audits, proficiency testing, and consumer complaint investigations related to microbiological issues.
Qualifications
- • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a related field
