Summary

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanical Engineering Supervisor to oversee maintenance operations, electrical systems, forklifts, skid-steer loaders, and other mechanical or technical equipment. This role will supervise a team of maintenance technicians responsible for most of the hands-on tasks and will also oversee larger or more complex tasks that may be outsourced. The Mechanical Engineer will ensure the reliability, efficiency, and safety of all systems and equipment, contributing to the overall success of operations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision & Leadership:

    • • Supervise a team of maintenance technicians, providing guidance, training, and oversight during the maintenance, repair, and installation of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
    • • Delegate tasks and manage workloads to ensure efficient completion of maintenance activities, ensuring adherence to safety and operational standards.
    • • Monitor technicians’ performance, provide feedback, and ensure compliance with safety and operational protocols.
    • • Coordinate with external contractors, when necessary, for specialized maintenance tasks.
  • Electrical System Maintenance:

    • • Ensure regular inspections and maintenance of electrical systems, including wiring, circuit breakers, and lighting.
    • • Troubleshoot electrical malfunctions and ensure all repairs and upgrades comply with electrical safety codes and regulations.
    • • Collaborate with technicians to resolve any issues related to electrical system breakdowns and coordinate outsourced work when necessary.
  • Forklifts, Skid-Steer Loaders, & Other Equipment Maintenance:

    • • Supervise the routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of forklifts, skid-steer loaders, and other heavy equipment.
    • • Ensure that these machines are serviced in line with manufacturer specifications, and that operational logs are kept up to date.
    • • Monitor performance and suggest upgrades or improvements to optimize equipment efficiency and safety.
  • Outsourcing Management:

    • • Identify when larger or more complex maintenance tasks require external contractors, such as electrical overhauls or specialized mechanical work.
    • • Coordinate and oversee the work of third-party contractors, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to company standards.
    • • Evaluate contractor performance and ensure compliance with safety and operational requirements.
  • Maintenance Planning & Coordination:

    • • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and building systems.
    • • Coordinate maintenance activities with internal teams and external vendors to ensure minimal disruption to operations.
    • • Ensure all repairs and maintenance work is carried out in a timely manner and in accordance with safety standards.
  • Troubleshooting & Problem Resolution:

    • • Provide high-level technical support and troubleshooting for complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic system issues.
    • • Assist technicians in diagnosing and resolving malfunctions, ensuring that repairs are accurate and adhere to operational requirements.
  • Documentation & Reporting:

    • • Ensure that detailed maintenance logs, work orders, and service records are maintained for all building, electrical, and mechanical systems.
    • • Compile and review reports on maintenance activities, equipment performance, and outsourced work for management review.
  • Inventory & Resource Management:

    • • Oversee inventory management of tools, spare parts, and materials for building, mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
    • • Ensure the timely procurement of necessary parts and tools, and manage external resources effectively.
  • Continuous Improvement & Efficiency Optimization:

    • • Lead efforts to improve the reliability and efficiency of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
    • • Recommend upgrades or modifications to enhance system performance, safety, and longevity.
    • • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize the use of heavy equipment like forklifts and loaders.
  • Safety & Compliance:

    • • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with local occupational health and safety protocols, electrical safety codes, and other relevant regulations.
    • • Monitor and arrange training of technicians on safety procedures and enforce compliance with health and safety protocols.
  • Collaboration & Communication:

    • • Work closely with other departments, including Operations, Facilities Management, and Procurement, to align maintenance tasks with business objectives.
    • • Communicate effectively with upper management, technicians, and contractors to ensure smooth execution of internal and outsourced maintenance tasks.

Required Skills

  • • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to train and develop maintenance technicians.
  • • In-depth knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, including design, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • • Proficiency in diagnostic tools and testing equipment for electrical and mechanical systems.
  • • Familiarity with local occupational health and safety standards, electrical codes, and other relevant safety regulations.
  • • Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
  • • Basic computer skills for report writing and maintenance documentation.

Qualifications

  • Education:

    • • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
  • Experience:

    • • Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical and/or electrical system maintenance, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
    • • Proven experience in troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic systems, electrical equipment, and industrial machinery.
    • • Experience managing outsourced maintenance tasks and external contractors.
  • Physical Requirements:

    • • Willingness to perform or oversee maintenance tasks outside of regular business hours as needed.
    • • Valid Class C driver’s license with a clean driving record.
