Farm Foreman - Seaforth, St. Thomas

Summary

The Farm Foreman is responsible for the improvement of pasture. Implementation of production strategies to maximize efficiency and profitability while maximizing fields, manpower and resource utilization. Assist the Farm Manager in coordinating the daily operations of the farm, ensuring that activities are carried out under proper hygienic conditions to enable achieving farm objectives

Responsibilities

• • Supervise daily milking and related operational activities.
• • Ensure that heat detection is carried out continuously, and A.I records are revised and maintained to the highest standard.
• • Ensure that animals are counted and recorded daily. Missing animal(s) are to be reported to the manager and security.
• • Ensure that the grazing cycle is strictly adhered to.
• • Ensure accurate and consistent adherence to the standard feeding practices for the calves and generate daily feed report.
• • Monitor fences to ensure that they are maintained in acceptable condition.
• • Ensure that clean water is always available in the troughs for the cattle and that the pipelines are in good working condition to prevent waste.
• • Ensure that proper milking and sanitizing procedures are maintained. Observe and report any potential hazards.
• • Ensure that milking and cooling equipment are maintained in reasonable condition.
• • Ensure that milk weights are taken and logged in a timely manner as per schedule.

• Schedule and execute standard husbandry practices:

  • • tattooing and tagging; deworming; spraying against tick infestation, branding and de-horning.
• • Ensure that building materials, veterinary supplies, cleaning and sanitation supplies, feeds etc. are ordered for the daily operation of the farm. Control the distribution and use of drugs and chemicals.
• • Control keys as per Company standard procedure.
• • Ensure accuracy of cattle weights and sales documents for cattle sales.
• • Maintain a daily record of activities and events on the farm. Keeping a daily record of feed receipts, usage and balances.
• • Ensure that task work is awarded and effectively and economically executed.
• • Ensure that the farm’s records are accurately maintained and submitted in a timely manner.
• • Assist with training of employees to implement best practices.
• • Participate in housekeeping, food safety, and general safety initiatives as required by the Company.
• • Perform any other related duties consistent with the position as required by management.

Qualifications

• • Associates degree in animal husbandry
• • Training in Supervisory Management
• • Experience in supervising and coordinating labour management
• • At least one (1) year experience working on a commercial agricultural operation

• • Early and late work may be necessary as work dictates. This includes weekdays, weekends and or holidays
