Summary

The incumbent in this position is responsible for administering the Company’s EMS procedures to ensure compliance with ISO 14001 requirements, the regulations under the Factories Act, and the National Environment and Planning Agency’s guidelines. The incumbent is also to act to enhance pollution prevention, mitigate risks, working to propagate good health and safety, and foster improvement in employee awareness of environmental issues and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • • Conduct Safety Inspections of Machinery and personnel
  • • Use check list that is location specific.
  • • Make notations, take pictures, send variances to offending department and do follow up.
  • • Perform EMS Monitoring
  • • Perform daily inspections of dust collector and roadways.
  • • Complete appropriate form and report variance to appropriate authority or Daily Production morning meeting.
  • • Perform Daily Inspecting of Packing Plant.
  • • Inform relevant authority of status.
  • • Conduct on-going environmental education on safe practices.
  • • Conduct Accident/ Incident Investigation
  • • Collect accident/incident report from Nurse, Team Leader, Supervisor or affected person.
  • • Interview persons and follow through on recommendations.
  • • Issue safety gears
  • • Pick” safety gears on system or arrange for employee to receive requested item(s).
  • • Conduct Monthly Audits of Emergency Supplies to Ensure Availability
  • • Conduct Monthly Audits of Essential Equipment such as on conveyors, guards, etc.
  • • Perform inspection of specified areas; prepare and submit report and follow up on recommendations.
  • • Prepare HSE Newsletter, Weekly Updates, Monthly Reports and HSE Week. (Draft HSE quarterly newsletter and submit for approval).
  • • Receive weekly HSE updates and carry out suggested corrective actions.
  • • Compile monthly figure (of especially environmental) assessment coupled with actions(s) taken.
  • • Develop programmes to reduce safety and environmental hazards
  • • Identify areas of improvement, arrange meetings with personnel, and implement updated programs/projects.

Qualifications

  • • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geology, chemistry, occupational H&S or engineering
  • • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel – Intermediate)
  • • Experience in performing inspection and auditing (security, quality, safety)
  • • Good knowledge of Health and Safety regulations, guidelines and procedures
  • • Excellent communication skills
  • • Good documenting and reporting skills
  • • Minimum experience of six (6) months in the area.
