Retail Collections Officer (Early Delinquency Loans)

Summary

Manage the bank’s delinquency portfolio of loans and overdrafts, by recommending and initiating corrective actions. Contribute to the quality of Sagicor Bank’s retail credit portfolio. Minimize the risk of loss within the credit portfolio through efficient execution of Sagicor Bank’s collection procedures.

Responsibilities

• • Review the newly suspended report and approved strategy for clients.
• • Schedule meetings, carefully research and respond to letters/ emails, manage calls and update follow up sheets and strategies, where necessary.
• • Establish whereabouts of borrowers, in cases where we have been unable to make contact.
• • Continue constructive interaction in negotiating with delinquent borrowers and/ or representatives.
• • Issue the prescribed delinquency notices to the delinquent borrower/ guarantors.
• • Collect payments from delinquent borrowers/ guarantors.
• • Outsource any accounts to external collectors not previously done by the early delinquency team, where the borrower is not honouring the payment arrangement.

• Commence security realization activities:

  • • Issue the appropriate notifications to the borrowers/ guarantors
• • Identify and recommend securities for liquidation and take steps in accordance with approved strategies.
• • Arrange for bailiff to repossess and store motor vehicles and equipment.
• • Arrange for public auction of properties being sold.
• • Prepare documents for foreclosure.
• • Produce periodic and monthly reports as needed and within the stipulated timeframes.
• • Support the review of the early delinquency and non-performing portfolios.
• • Perform any other duties assigned from time to time.

Required Skills

• • Banking experience with emphasis in credit management would be an asset.
• • High level of analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• • Exceptional communication skills.
• • Has tenacity in meeting targets.
• • Sound credit judgment.
• • Knowledge of the Bank’s policies and procedures regarding lending and collections.
• • Thorough knowledge in the art of negotiating and debt collection techniques.
• • Self-motivated, organized and results oriented.
• • Knowledge of collateral and securities.
• • High degree of confidentiality and professionalism.
• • Sound knowledge of computer software packages including word processing and spreadsheet applications.

Qualifications

• • Bachelor’s degree in Management Studies, Finance, Banking or Accounting from a recognized tertiary institution.
• • Minimum of four (4) years working experience in banking with at least two (2) years working experience in collections.
