Accounting Assistant - AFSL
Summary
Provide support for the accounting department through the updating of the general ledger accounting system daily, preparing daily and monthly reconciliations and schedules as well as managing weekly payment processing.
Responsibilities
- • Prepare the appropriate journal entries daily and record transactions in the general ledger and have supporting documents available for review.
- • Assist with the import from sub ledger to general ledger and to bank statements daily.
- • Update balance sheet and income statement schedules daily.
- • Research, track and resolve accounting problems.
- • Prepare bank reconciliations daily for all bank accounts.
- • Prepare monthly intercompany reconciliations.
- • Reconciling and reporting any discrepancies found from reconciliations.
- • Managing weekly expense payments.
- • Prepare journal vouchers along with invoices for payment and submit for review.
- • Process bills for payment.
- • Prepare monthly accruals report and record in the general ledger.
- • File all payment vouchers with the relevant invoices or other supporting documents.
- • Perform other job-related duties assigned from time to time.
Required Skills
- • High proficiency in the use of computer software packages such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, PC productivity and Internet applications.
- • Track record for adherence to procedures, analytical, and keen attention to detail.
- • Familiarity with computerized accounting systems.
- • Strong communication skills both orally and in writing.
- • Strong analytical, conceptual thinking and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications
- • Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Accounting and Finance, ACCA Level I, or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution.
- • Two (2) years’ working experience in similar position in a financial institution.
- • Proficient in ACCPAC/SAGE 50 accounting is an asset.
