Quality Assurance Technician
Summary
The Best Dressed Chicken, a cornerstone of the Jamaican poultry industry, is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Quality Assurance Technician to champion the highest standards of quality and safety within our cold storage operations. This is an exceptional opportunity to play a key role in upholding our commitment to excellence and ensuring the integrity of our premium products. As a key member of our team, you will be at the forefront of ensuring our products meet stringent operational, quality, and food safety standards, as well as all relevant regulations.
Responsibilities
The Quality Assurance Technician's, will be inclusive of but not limited to:
- • Implement and monitor quality assurance procedures throughout the poultry processing and cold storage operations.
- • Conduct regular inspections and audits to verify adherence to company, government, and industry quality and regulatory standards.
- • Perform standardized tests on raw materials, in-process goods, and finished products, meticulously documenting and analyzing the results.
- • Lead and participate in sensory evaluations, applying organoleptic skills and techniques to assess product attributes.
- • Maintain a thorough understanding of poultry and meat products, their processing, and potential quality deviations.
- • Apply knowledge of ISO, HACCP, Risk Management, Allergen Control, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to ensure compliance.
- • Utilize principles of Food Microbiology and statistical process control to identify and mitigate potential quality risks.
- • Develop and maintain standardized testing protocols for products and materials.
- • Contribute to problem prevention and resolution efforts through effective analytical and diagnostic skills.
- • Collaborate with other departments to implement corrective and preventative actions.
- • Maintain accurate and comprehensive quality records and reports.
- • Apply knowledge of animal welfare practices in relevant quality assurance activities.
- • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for data analysis and reporting.
Qualifications
- • Minimum of a Diploma in Agro-Food Processing, Food Science, Food Chemistry, or a related discipline; OR a Level 3 HEART Trust/NSTA Certificate with at least three (3) years of demonstrable work experience in a food processing environment.
- • Comprehensive knowledge of poultry and meat products and their processing methods.
- • Working knowledge of ISO standards, HACCP principles, risk management methodologies, allergen control protocols, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- • Proven ability to conduct sensory evaluations and apply organoleptic assessment techniques.
- • Sound understanding of Food Microbiology principles.
- • Familiarity with statistical process control concepts.
- • Demonstrated ability to organize and develop standardized testing procedures.
- • Knowledge of relevant company, government, and industry quality assurance and regulatory standards within the food sector.
- • Formal training in animal welfare practices is desirable.
- • Well-developed interpersonal, communication (both written and verbal), analytical, diagnostic, and time management skills.
- • Effective problem-solving, problem prevention, and organizational abilities.
- • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- • Must be able to work comfortably in a refrigerated environment.
- • Must be willing to work on a contractual basis.
- • Valid Food Handlers’ card.
