Phlebotomist

Summary

The phlebotomist is responsible for performing a variety of duties involved in the collection of blood and non-blood samples from patients for laboratory testing to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Responsibilities

• • Perform several routine blood drawing procedures.
• • Make appointments to visit home patients and offices.
• • Confer with patients to obtain information for laboratory records, explain procedures, allay fears and elicit cooperation.
• • Utilize standard procedures for the maintenance of positive patient identification, record appropriate collection information on request forms.
• • Centrifuge, label and store blood samples for subsequent analysis by staff.

Qualifications

• • Certificate in phlebotomy or equivalent from a recognized institution.
• • 4 CSEC Subjects (Mathematics, English, a Science Subject and any other subject)
• • At least a year experience working as a phlebotomist at an accredited institution.
