
Paralegal - Legal Services
Summary
Provide support to the legal team in the provision of legal services to Sagicor Group Jamaica Limited and its subsidiaries as well as to external and internal clients. Undertake legal work including, but not limited to, conveyancing and mortgage matters, probate cases, leases, pending claims and matters in litigation. Provide administrative support including preparation of reports of work assigned and corporate secretarial services.
Responsibilities
- • Prepare loan security documentation including instruments of mortgage, assignments and agreements.
- • Perfect mortgages and other collateral securities including stamping and registration.
- • Correspond with clients, external counsel, lenders, mortgage officers and disbursements team.
Administer the Mortgage Arrears portfolio and the sale of properties under Power of Sale and Foreclosure Proceedings including the:
- • Preparation of arrears reports, foreclosure applications and notices.
- • Preparation of Agreements for Sale (whether under Power of Sale or of properties owned by Sagicor entities), Statements of Accounts, transfers and other relevant documents.
- • Preparation of Applications to the Registrar of Titles.
- • Correspondence with counterparties and their Attorneys-at-law, the Office of Registrar of Titles, the Stamp Duty and Transfer Tax Department, Tax Administration Jamaica and the Island Records office.
- • Prepare leases based on instructions from Sagicor Bank or Sagicor Property Services Limited.
Provide general support to the legal team including:
- • Responding to inquiries with respect to deceased clients.
- • Conducting research including reviewing statutes, regulations and guidelines from regulators.
- • The preparation of documentation and correspondences.
- • Corresponding with external counterparties and their attorneys.
- • The preparation and transacting discharge of mortgages and title forwarding on behalf of Sagicor entities.
- • Present titles to the Master in Chambers in relation to Modification of Restrictive Covenants.
- • Prepare documentation for commercial transactions for review by supervising attorney.
- • Perform any other job-related duties assigned from time to time.
Required Skills
- • Good knowledge of conveyancing laws, practice and procedures.
- • Good knowledge of succession laws, probate practice and procedures.
- • Good knowledge of practice and procedures for registration and maintenance of companies.
- • Good legal research and analytical skills.
- • Good time management and organizational skills.
- • Good interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
- • Sound knowledge of computer software packages including spreadsheet and word processing applications.
Qualifications
- • A Bachelor’s Degree in Paralegal Studies or related discipline from a recognized tertiary institution.
- • At least 1 year working experience as a paralegal with particular emphasis on conveyancing.
