Summary

Responsibilities

• • Conduct field visits, register potential participants for the programmes offered at the Homework Centres to ensure the achievement of enrolment objectives.
• • Maintain database with information on all students registered at the Centres.
• • Collect, record and analyze school reports and exam results.
• • Make referral for academic support and counselling intervention.
• • Coordinate logistics for programme activities, including identifying suitable venues and personnel for the provision of meals.
• • Liaise with GraceKennedy staff to identify potential mentors and volunteers for programmes offered at the Centre.
• • Ensure the physical environment of the Centre is conducive to learning.
• • Liaise with teachers to coordinate proper scheduling of subjects/classes to meet demand and conduct needs assessment to identify subject areas to be taught.
• • Ensure educational materials required for the programme are available for teachers/volunteers.
• • Conduct needs assessment to identify subject areas to be taught or supervised.
• • Conduct parent consultation meetings and coordinate parenting workshops.
• • Plan motivational activities for students as the need arises
• • Maintain attendance register to track student’s participation in the programmes for which they are registered and follow up with absent students.
• • In consultation with management, develop criteria/job description for selection of volunteers and mentors associated with the programme.
• • Conduct evaluations to solicit feedback from volunteers for use in determining changes/amendments to programme offerings.
• • Intake assessment and referral of clients to the general office
• • Promote goodwill between GraceKennedy and community residents through collaboration with stakeholders to undertake community development initiatives.
• • Represent the Foundation at community and stakeholder meetings
• • Provide support to the senior citizens group and basic schools in Spanish Town
• • Guide programme beneficiaries in the preparation of documents such as SBAs, resumes job letters and other correspondents as the need arises
• • Prepare reports and make recommendations to assist with the efficient operation of the Homework Centres and other community development initiatives led by the Foundation

Required Skills

• • Good observation, facilitation and listening skills
• • Excellent analytical, problem Solving, organization and collaboration skills
• • Knowledge of Mediation and Crisis Intervention, Community Dynamics and Culture
• • Collaborative Planning
• • Good understanding of proposal writing
• • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Qualifications

• • Training in Participatory Learning and Action Process.
• • Degree in Social Work/Community Development
• • At least five (5) years’ experience in Community Development/case work
