Senior Taxpayer Accounts Officer (Level 5) - Montego Bay RSC
Summary
To maintain taxpayers’ accounts by making the necessary adjustments and correction from work items or irregularities and discrepancies are identified from Collections, Compliance, Taxpayer Service and Audit. 💰Salary: $5,198,035 – 6,990,779 JMD per annum
Responsibilities
- • Initiates checks to ensure that all transactions and other input documentation affecting the status of taxpayers’ accounts have been keyed and accepted by the system, ensuring the availability of current information;
- • Corrects errors compiled on the Correction Data Sheet by Compliance, Taxpayer Service and Tax Collections and Audit;
- • Checks email daily for direct banking and ensure processing of receipts;
- • Reversal of automatic estimated assessment from Taxpayers account for Deregistration cases;
- • Corrects suspended items transactions by examining nature of suspension and executes corrective actions;
- • Makes adjustments to taxpayers’ accounts in the ledgers;
- • Assist in ensuring that daily collections are accounted for and lodged;
- • Assist in providing overrides and end of day balancing;
- • Add and or verifies corrections to the Property Tax System;
- • Checks batches to be transmitted the Returns Processing Unit;
- • Verifies suspended items transactions by examining nature of suspension and executes corrective actions;
- • Makes adjustments to taxpayers’ accounts;
- • Assists with Taxpayer Service functions e.g. the registration and transfer of motor vehicles and the processing and issuing of motor vehicle titles where applicable;
- • Prepares accurate, comprehensive reports and submits to the relevant managers;
- • Assists the Collection Officers with system overrides and queries in relation to Tax Returns;
- • Liaises with taxpayer to respond to queries and request additional information to correct taxpayer’s account;
- • Logs and adds all waiver adjustments received from Technical Specialist Unit as required;
- • Supports the identification and management of risks within the organization and by extension the respective area of work;
- • Attends meetings as required by Manager;
- • Performs other related duties assigned by the Manager.
This job is satisfactorily performed when:
- • Completed Returns are verified and dispatched within the agreed timeframe;
- • Work items are reduced according to the agreed standards;
- • Adjustments are completed in keeping with established standards;
- • Queries are responded to within the designated timeframe;
- • Accurate, comprehensive reports are prepared in the required format and submitted by the due date.
Required Skills
Specific Knowledge:
- • Comprehensive knowledge of all the relevant tax laws, regulations and guidelines;
- • Comprehensive knowledge of Tax Administration Jamaica’s operations, functions and Code of Conduct;
- • Working knowledge of computer systems and the relevant applications;
- • Working knowledge in correct completion of Tax Returns;

- • Excellent decision-making, organizing, judgement, and analytical skills;
- • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- • Excellent customer service skills;
- • Very good time management skill;
- • Keen eyes for details
Qualifications
- • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or equivalent qualifications;
- • At least three (3) years experience in a related position.
