Summary

The University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) is looking for a qualified Public Health Officer (HPC/EH 2) to join their team. This role is crucial for maintaining public health standards within the hospital environment. 💰Basic Salary: $3,759,184 JMD per annum.

Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Senior Director, Strategic Planning, Performance & Project Management, the Administrative Assistant is responsible for:

  • Under the general direction of the Chief Public Health Officer, the Public Health Officer (HPC/EH 2) is responsible for:

    • Sampling of food and drink, enforcing Public Health requirements, and conforming with the Bureau of Standards.
    • Guiding the process of fumigating and disinfecting Wards, Operating Theatres, Isolation Areas, and Vehicles.
    • Reporting and investigating cases of infectious diseases within the institution.
    • Providing inspection services for all Sewage Treatment Plants, Water Supply and Solid Waste Services.
    • Conducting rodent control surveys and planning, executing, and monitoring day-to-day operations.
    • Setting proper standards for Food Handling Establishments within the Hospital, conducting Food Handlers Clinics, and being responsible for the validation of Permits.
    • Instructing the incinerator operator on suitable methods of disposal for theatre amputations, ward leftovers, and infectious material.
    • Operating as a guide and resource person for Medical Students, Students from the Department of Social and Preventative Medicine, and Trainee Public Health Inspectors.
    • Monitoring water quality by carrying out bacteriological and chemical samples.

Qualifications

  • BSc in Environmental Health.
  • Certified as a Public Health Inspector.
  • Registration with the Council for Professions Supplementary to Medicine in Jamaica.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a related field.
