Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor, Transport, the Driver 1 is responsible: To provide transportation services to the Agency’s staff and associates as required from time to time. To maintain and ensure proper use of vehicles assigned for use in customs related activities. To transport staff, goods, furniture, and equipment to the various locations and Customs offices Island wide. To ensure timely and adequate maintenance of the vehicle and maintaining the motor vehicle logs. 💰Salary: $1,439,455 JMD per annum.

Responsibilities

  • Technical/Professional:

    • • Collect and deliver mails, goods, material, furniture, and equipment for the Agency to and from custom locations, suppliers and other organizations and ensure that Delivery Books are signed, and delivery made in accordance with daily schedule.
    • • Transports officers to collect goods.
    • • Transports staff members to meetings and other important engagements when required.
    • • Participates in the unloading of goods and equipment’s from vehicles.
    • • Ensure that the motor vehicle records (fitness, registration, insurance) are up-to-date and that the required renewals are in keeping with government regulations. Ensure that a copy of these documents is always present in the vehicle.
    • • Updates and maintains vehicle logbook/daily assignment record book on the use of the motor vehicle with all relevant activities as it relates to duties carried out.
    • • Complies with the traffic regulations by ensuring that the signaling systems are functioning properly and lights and other accessories are in good condition.
    • • Inspects the vehicle and checks gas, oil, water, and battery regularly.
    • • Effects minor repairs and ensures that the tyres are always road worthy.
    • • Reports all accidents involving the vehicles (minor or otherwise) promptly to the Police and the Transport Supervisor. A written incident/accident report should also be submitted.
    • • Reports and requests necessary repairs and servicing of vehicle and ensures that repairs are properly done.
    • • Ensures that the vehicle is regularly cleaned and maintained.
    • • Ensures the security and safekeeping of tools and other materials belonging to the vehicle assigned to him/her.
    • • Pumps and changes tyres when necessary.
    • • Requests fuel and oil when necessary and records full consumption.
    • • Supervises the work of the men assigned to work on the vehicle.
    • • Completes the relevant documentations when vehicle is being handed over
    • • Parks vehicles on compound at the end of each day, unless otherwise directed.
    • • Prepares reports and maintains records on the operations of the vehicle.
  • Customer Service:

    • • Maintains customer service principles, standards, and measurements.
  • Other:

    • • Performs all other duties and functions as may be required from time to time.
    • • May be required to provide witness statements, attend court proceedings, and give evidence.
    • • Complies with Health & Safety Policies & Procedures.

    • • Working knowledge of the Road Traffic Act and driving regulations.
    • • Knowledge of the operations of Government policies and procedures concerning motor vehicles.

Qualifications

  • • High School Diploma/Certificate with at least two (2) CSEC/GCE O’Level passes.
  • • At least three (3) years’ experiences in a similar position with minimal accident occurrence.
  • • Possession of a General Driver’s License.
  • • An understanding of government operations guidelines and principles in operating their assets.
