Communications Officer
Summary
The Communications Officer is responsible for the Community Relations activities of the Council by sensitizing / educating the internal and external customers about Science and Technology, promoting the products developed and services offered, thereby publicizing the Council as a good corporate entity. đź’°Salary: $3,501,526 JMD per annum.
Responsibilities
Develop Communications Plan:
- • Design and implement communication strategies that align with organizational goals and promote the Council’s mission.
Media Relations:
- • Build and maintain media relationships, manage publicity, and organize media engagements.
Community Relations:
- • Plan and execute annual community programs, manage public relations through various media.
Press Releases & Features:
- • Write and distribute press releases, feature stories, and manage key calendar events.
Marketing Support:
- • Collaborate to create marketing materials like brochures, flyers, and posters to support initiatives.
Event Planning:
- • Plan and implement events to promote the Council’s services, technologies, and products.
Internal Communications:
- • Prepare internal newsletters and updates, manage internal communications, and organize photoshoots.
Staff Engagement:
- • Work with HR to organize team-building and staff engagement activities.
Project Collaboration:
- • Attend meetings to gather information for communication and support internal and external linkages.
Public Relations Support:
- • Provide PR support for media interactions and public outreach.
Speech & Message Preparation:
- • Prepare speeches and key messages for senior staff and officials.
Social Media Engagement:
- • Manage social media platforms, create engaging content, and interact with audiences.
Website Monitoring & Content Development:
- • Update content on the website, ensuring it is current, functional, and aligned with objectives.
Executive Briefing:
- • Provide communication briefs for the Executive Director and senior staff for external engagements.
Required Skills
- • Proficiency in software applications, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Canva and Desktop Publishing.
- • Results-oriented and ability to meet deadlines.
- • Ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) at all levels.
- • Excellent public relations & event planning skills.
- • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
Qualifications
- • Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication or Public Relations.
- • Five (5) years relevant post qualification experience.
