Summary

Under the guidance of the Computer Engineer, the incumbent is responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining IT hardware and software, and providing technical support to the various units/laboratories. He/She will also assist with the development and maintenance of the ICENS (International Centre for Environmental and Nuclear Sciences) information systems, including databases, data analysis and visualization software, the laboratory information systems, Geographic Information System (GIS), and other ancillary systems.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the integrity of all PC hardware and other peripheral devices such as printers.
  • Perform periodic software updates and data cleanups to maintain desktop performance.
  • Coordinate installation, availability, and maintenance of basic multimedia presentation systems and technologies in support of audio/videoconferencing.
  • Liaise with Mona Information Technology Services (MITS) to ensure that the local node is properly configured, resulting in the availability of all network resources.
  • Provide desktop support for all PC-based software applications available at ICENS.
  • Maintain a secure operating system and network environment.
  • Monitor and provide reports on system performance.
  • Maintain an up-to-date digital asset inventory of all software and hardware-based components.
  • Prepare requisition requests for computers, peripheral devices, software, and any other equipment as instructed by the Computer Engineer.
  • Liaise with procurement staff to ensure that orders initiated are processed efficiently.
  • Ensure automatic backups of files are successfully completed.
  • Conduct user training exercises as determined by the Computer Engineer.
  • Undertake any other related duties that may be assigned by the Computer Engineer.

Required Skills

  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic systems and network administration methodology, procedures, and practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in an ICT discipline.
  • At least two (2) years of working experience in either a public or private sector corporation, or non-governmental organization.
  • Experience in programming (SQL Server, C/C++/Java, Python) is a distinct advantage.

In 1984 it brought into operation a small Slowpoke-II research reactor provided by the European Economic Community (now the European Union).
