Application Engineer

Summary

Provide technical application support for specific applications & information systems solutions deployed at & across the entities of Sagicor Group Jamaica. Support provided will include system upgrades, data migration, performance monitoring, resource planning, problem resolution, data protection & recovery.

Responsibilities

• • Work alongside Group Project Management Office, consultants, developers, hosting & professional services to effect scheduled version upgrades for the assigned systems.
• • Document the business & Information Technology requirements of assigned systems with the aim of matching business needs to technology services.
• • Be responsible for all data migration exercises associated with system revisions, upgrades and new developments.
• • Develop appropriate metrics for profiling system performance to ensure compliance to Service Level Agreements for assigned systems.
• • Develop systems growth plans and resource projections for assigned systems.
• • Investigate ways to improve the levels of integration, efficiency & reliability for the assigned systems.
• • Design & operate data protection measures for the support of the assigned systems.
• • Serve as shadow resource for the other members of the Network Infrastructure team in accordance with skill level and cross-training.
• • Maintain regulatory compliance in daily activities by strictly adhering to data privacy regulations/acts and relevant cybersecurity policies, and defined standards, guidelines, and procedures to avoid non-compliance and associated risks.
• • Perform other job-related duties assigned from time to time.

Required Skills

• • Working knowledge of Project Management tools and concepts (introductory training to PMBOK or similar Project Management frameworks would be an asset).
• • Ability to produce and read technical documentation. (data flow diagrams, E/R diagrams, Active Directory schematics, network schematics).
• • Ability to develop system functional requirements from concepts, user analysis, business workflows and solution objectives.
• • Intermediate/ Expert proficiency in the use of productivity software packages including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and data visualization applications.
• • Working knowledge of server/ storage virtualization technologies & operating in such environments.

Qualifications

• • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Science, Technology, Application Development or equivalent qualification from a recognized tertiary institution.
• • At least two (2) years’ working experience in an application support or application development role.
• • At least two (2) years’ working experience in Microsoft Server, Desktop OS, Database and Networking technologies (professional certifications in any would be an asset).
• • Minimum of two (2) years’ working experience in CISCO network and technologies, CCNA(P), CCIE, Linux and Unix (professional certifications would be an asset).

  • • Position may include work both from office and off site, occasional overseas travel and frequent work outside of normal business hours and occasionally on weekends/holidays when required
