Logistics Controller

Summary

The Logistics Controller is responsible for processes orders and oversees cycle of order fulfilment. S/He is responsible for making sure supplies, stock, materials, packages, and/or products are processed through the delivery and/or warehouse system efficiently and safely.

Responsibilities

• • Examine purchase orders and compare with records, such as manifests, invoices, or orders, to verify accuracy of incoming or outgoing shipment.
• • Prepare applications for the necessary importation permits.
• • Examine bills of lading, and shipping orders to determine if express release or otherwise.
• • Determine shipping method for materials, using knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.
• • Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, and damages and discrepancies, for reporting, accounting, and recordkeeping purposes.
• • Contact carrier representative to make arrangements and to issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials.
• • Confer and correspond with establishment representatives to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages, and non-conformance to specifications
• • Compute amounts, such as shipping, storage, and demurrage charges, using calculator or price list.
• • Liaise with and inform internal departments regarding container arrivals, clearance dates or any delays.
• • Inform warehouse on a weekly basis regarding bonded shipment clearance.

• Liaise with Regulatory and Government Agencies including:

  • • Ministry of Agriculture/VSD
  • • Jamaica Customs
  • • Jamaica Maritime Authority
  • • Ministry of Health
  • • Coconut Industry Board
  • • Ministry of Industry /Trade Board
  • • Bureau of Standards
• • To implement any activity, process or strategy that will improve the competitive advantage of the company, in consultation with the Logistics Supervisor.
• • Ensuring the maintenance of the good name and reputation of Caribbean Producers Jamaica Ltd. in general through the demonstration and practice of the highest standards of ethical conduct.
• • To abide by the disciplinary code of the company.
• • Any other duties as may be assigned.

Required Skills

• • Previous experience in the supervising or managing a team of people.
• • Must have strong knowledge of shipping Administration by Air, Road, Sea.
• • Must have a strong understanding of Airway Bills, Bills of Lading, Customs Clearance and other documentation used in import, export.
• • Good experience in people management and interpersonal skills.
• • Strong organizational skills.
• • Ability to work well under pressure to strict deadlines.
• • Strong MS Office skills.
• • Proven ability to cut costs and meet office budgets.
• • Ability to get results from staff and motivate them to achieve.

Qualifications

• • At least a Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Logistics and Supply Chain or related field.
• • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the hospitality and entertainment industry.
• • Office management experience within a Shipping, Freight Forwarding or Logistics company. 
• • Previous experience in the supervising or managing a team of people.
