Finance Manager - Insurance Accounting

Summary

Provide overall management support of team members and Assistant Vice President Insurance Accounting. Manage the financial reporting function of Sagicor Life of the Cayman Islands (SLC), the Turks and Caicos Branch of SLC and Sagicor Insurance Brokers. Provide support to the financial reporting, regulatory reporting and internal controls of the Insurance Accounting functions of Sagicor Group Jamaica.

Responsibilities

  • Review monthly, quarterly and annually the financial statements for Sagicor Life of the Cayman Islands (SLC), the Turks and Caicos Branch of SLC and Sagicor Insurance Brokers (SIB).
  • Oversee the processes to substantially reduce Insurance suspense accounts balance.
  • Review assigned bank reconciliations in both life insurance companies.
  • Review monthly reconciliations of sub-ledger to general for Investment Contracts in both life companies and review the preparation of monthly and quarterly interest accruals.
  • Manage the collection of general ledger receivables from third parties in both life companies.
  • Provide support to the Management Accounting and Budgeting team in the preparation of annual budget and forecasts for both life companies.
  • Perform other job-related duties assigned from time to time.

  • Sound knowledge in the use of computer software applications including spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact credibly and comfortable at all levels.
  • Good human relations skills.
  • Attention to details and excellent time management skills.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving and financial analytical skills.

Qualifications

  • Completion of ACCA, CPA or equivalent qualification from a recognized professional body or tertiary institution.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ working experience in an accounting managerial position.
  • Insurance industry experience would be asset.
  • Sound knowledge of financial industry, financial accounting practices and standards in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards.
