Assistant Shift Manager - Engineering
Summary
This role oversees and optimizes maintenance operations for heavy industrial equipment, ensuring maximum uptime and efficiency through effective leadership, preventative maintenance strategies, and team development.
Responsibilities
- • Effect and monitor the preventative, corrective and predictive maintenance activities to achieve maximum equipment availability and reliability of equipment in a cost-effective manner
- • Provide supervision and leadership of team members to ensure adherence to established engineering standards and procedures, and compliance with statutory requirements and safety regulations in the execution of assignments and the operation of equipment and machinery
- • Facilitate the technical development of Maintenance Technicians via training, coaching and mentoring activities
- • Receive plan, organizes, oversee maintenance activities to ensure all maintenance activities are conducted within the targets set for quality, time and cost. Provide clear instructions and guidance to ensure targets are met
- • Monitors and report on performance against targets on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
- • Provide supervision and leadership to team members to ensure adherence to established engineering standards and procedures, and compliance with all safety regulations
- • Prepare, review and analyse reports as required, and ensure follow-up action
- • Assist with budget preparation; monitor expenditure, including labour hours and spare parts costs
- • Manage staff performance; ensure strategies are developed to close performance gaps
- • Prepare and deliver training modules as required
- • Monitor testing of equipment to ensure compliance with specification and safety standards.
- • Comply with all disaster contingency plans
Required Skills
- • Proficiency in the preparation and interpretation of technical drawings
- • Skilled in use of flow charting software and other maintenance management tools
- • Sound knowledge engineering, safety and environmental standards
- • Skilled in managing resources; people, material, establishing and managing priorities
- • Problem solving and analysis, project management, strong judgement
- • Collaboration, communication, time management, organizing
Qualifications
- • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electronic Engineering or Industrial Maintenance
- • Certification in Industrial Management or Management Studies
- • Minimum five (5) years’ working experience in the maintenance of heavy industrial equipment with a minimum of three (3) years’ supervisory experience
