Transfer Assistant
Summary
Process Inward and Outward Clearing (local and foreign currency) cheques and other documents received from other banks and branches. Attends the Clearing house sessions held daily to exchange items processed by the branches. Update the Treasury and Trade Services Departments with Local and Foreign Clearing figures exchanged.
Responsibilities
- • Attend clearinghouse sessions daily to exchange other banks cheques for Sagicor Bank cheques.
- • Provide Treasury, Trade Services and the Central Reconciliation Unit with clearing figures daily.
- • Capture Inward Clearing items according to established procedures and dispatch to the Validation Unit.
Verify and process Out clearing items:
- • Sort and dispatch contents of proof bags to the relevant branches and departments.
- • Correct and balance imaged batches received from branches to ensure the meeting of Automated Clearing House schedules.
- • Power encode out-ward clearing items to verify receipt of imaged items.
- • Batch and balance Local and Foreign Exchange outward clearings for each bank.
- • Prepare BOJ Clearinghouse statement for all currencies.
- • Process inward clearing foreign exchange items to clients’ accounts.
- • Process foreign exchange cheques and prepare cash letters to correspondent banks.
- • Perform remote deposit capture process for USD items.
- • Process entries for referral, material defects and rejected (unposted) items ensuring that the relevant general ledgers and client accounts are correctly updated.
- • Collect service charges for Payroll processing and recover APL and temporary cheque leave charges.
- • Balance and clear all outstanding items in the suspense general ledger accounts.
- • Meet the recourse period outlined in the Jamaica Clearing Bankers Association Clearinghouse Rules of all clearing items processed.
- • Perform other job-related duties assigned from time to time.
Required Skills
- • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- • Knowledge of securities processing would be an asset.
- • High degree of accuracy and detail orientation.
- • Knowledge of the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
- • High degree of confidentiality.
- • Ability to work under pressure and on own initiative.
- • Effective communication skills.
- • Strong team orientation.
- • Knowledge of the Bank’s Policies and Procedures.
- • Knowledge of the Jamaica Clearing Bankers Association Clearinghouse Rules.
Qualifications
- • Minimum of six (6) CSEC or GCE level subjects including English Language and Mathematics or a Diploma in Business Management or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
- • Minimum of two (2) years’ working experience in the Banking Operations Department of a Commercial Banking entity.
