Scientific Officer

Summary

This position will be an exciting and ideal opportunity for an experienced MSc or above graduate with a few years work experience in a role combining technical, scientific and practical duties. The Research Unit will be led by a Research Steering Committee and the Scientific Officer will contribute to its activities and be primarily responsible for implementing its decisions and actions. The ideal person will have experience in and knowledge of poultry farming, key aspects of nutrition as well as having excellent inter-personal skills.

Responsibilities

Capable of working independently and as a team, this new position has responsibility for a number of functions including but not limited to:

• • Experimental design - coordinate planning of trials, liaise with the Research Steering Committee members and others as required to decide and finalise experimental treatments
• • Experimental protocols – write protocols for the entire process of bringing a trial to reality and successful completion including managing chick supply, feed manufacture, products, work required etc.
• • Literature reviews and background research on nutritional topics as required
• • Provide support regarding formulations of trial premixes and feeds

• The primary responsibility for the integrity of the research conducted includes:

  • • Presence at placement and harvesting of birds, ✅ Leading and assisting the weighing of birds and feed, ✅ Data collection and statistical analysis, ✅ Providing weekly updates of interim trial results, and ✅ Sharing of results in written reports and PowerPoint presentations.
• • Management responsibility for the Research Assistant who provides primarily practical support with the day to day running of the trials and facility
• • Assisting with customer/staff visits to the facility
• • Support with other marketing and communication activities as and when required

Qualifications

• • MSc or higher in a relevant field (e.g., Animal Science, Poultry Science, Agricultural Science, Nutrition, or related discipline).
