Summary

The Jamaica Agricultural Commodities Regulatory Authority (JACRA) is seeking a highly motivated and strategic leader to serve as Coordinator, Field Advisory/Extension Service. This role is crucial in empowering farmers, fostering sustainable agricultural practices, and ensuring Jamaica's agricultural sector thrives through modern advisory services and collaborative partnerships. The successful candidate will be responsible for policy and program development, stakeholder engagement, capacity building, and technical advisory services to support farmers and agricultural stakeholders across the country. đź’°Basic Salary: $6,300,000 - $6,900,000 JMD per annum.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Industry Development:

    • • Provide visionary leadership to the Field Advisory Services team to achieve JACRA's agricultural development objectives.
    • • Develop and implement policies, programs, and initiatives to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability.
    • • Ensure advisory programs align with national agricultural priorities and global best practices.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration:

    • • Establish and maintain relationships with farmers, agricultural organizations, and governmental bodies.
    • • Foster collaborative partnerships to promote knowledge sharing, resource mobilization, and industry-wide improvements.
    • • Work closely with research institutions and universities to ensure farmers benefit from the latest advancements in agronomy, soil conservation, and pest management.
  • Resource & Program Management:

    • • Develop and manage budgets for advisory programs, ensuring efficient use of resources.
    • • Oversee the implementation and monitoring of field projects to ensure they meet regulatory requirements and sustainability goals.
    • • Design and implement data collection and analysis systems to track farmer needs, program effectiveness, and agricultural trends.
  • Technical Guidance & Training:

    • • Provide technical advisory services to farmers in modern agricultural practices, climate-smart farming, and financial literacy.
    • • Coordinate training workshops and capacity-building programs for farmers and extension officers.
    • • Ensure the dissemination of up-to-date scientific research, best practices, and market intelligence to support informed decision-making.
  • Performance Monitoring & Evaluation:

    • • Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) to track the effectiveness of extension programs.
    • • Conduct field assessments, program evaluations, and stakeholder feedback sessions to continuously improve service delivery.
    • • Ensure compliance with national and international agricultural policies governing advisory services.

Required Skills

  • • Proven experience in developing and implementing extension programs, agricultural training, and stakeholder engagement strategies.
  • • Deep understanding of modern farming techniques, sustainable agriculture, and climate resilience strategies.
  • • Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills to engage with farmers, government agencies, and private sector partners.
  • • Strong analytical skills with experience in data collection, impact assessment, and program evaluation.

Qualifications

  • • Master's degree in Agriculture, Environmental Science, or a related field with at least 3 years of relevant experience;
  • OR
  • • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture or a related field with at least 5 years of experience in agricultural extension, advisory services, or rural development.
