
GIS Specialist (Level 7)
Summary
The Jamaica Bauxite Institute seeks to engage a qualified and experienced individual for the following position: GIS Specialist (Level 7) đź’°Salary: $3,501,526 - $4,709,163 JMD per annum
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Director - Bauxite Lands, the GIS Specialist will be required to do the following:
- • Develop, maintain, and update GIS databases, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
- • Develop appropriate GIS applications with accompanying graphics for internal and commercial GIS projects and provide GIS support, services and products to staff and supporting system users.
- • Conduct spatial analysis and modeling to support decision-making processes.
- • Create and manage digital maps and spatial data visualizations to communicate complex information effectively.
- • Collaborate with various departments to integrate GIS solutions into their workflows.
- • Provide technical support and training to staff on GIS applications and tools.
- • Analyze current advancements in GIS Technology and recommend improvements to existing systems.
- • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations based on geospatial data analysis.
- • Operate the ARCGIS/ARCVIEW/ CAD software and machines (computers, printers, scanners, copiers) that facilitate the execution of GIS and Cartographic and related tasks.
- • Develop (correct, analyze, standardize and digitize and update geospatial and tabular datasets) and maintain accurate and efficient bauxite land, reserves and environment GIS data bases.
- • Maintain and update an inventory and record of all maps and electronic database, Metadata documentation and management.
- • Design and customize an appropriate interface with relevant queries, scripts and macros to meet internal and customer needs.
- • To perform field inspections as directed or as is needed.
- • Assist in the review of subdivision applications for external stakeholders.
Qualifications
Education:
- • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geospatial Science or a related field with major emphases on GIS or formal GIS training at an accredited tertiary level institution.
- • Specialized training in ARCGIS software is desirable.
Experience:
- • Interested applicant must possess at least 3 years' GIS work experience specializing in complex GIS application development and support activities at a senior level for consideration.
