Summary

This position plans and coordinates the maintenance activities of the Workshop by providing administrative and technical support in the fabrication and maintenance of navigational aids, maintenance of vehicles, vessels and buildings as well as port maintenance. đź’°$7,616,470.81 - $8,723,351.06 JMD per annum.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct and coordinate the work activities, including inspection, repairs and maintenance of:

    • • Lighthouses, lighthouse cottages and out-buildings
    • • Navigational aids
    • • Motor vessels
    • • Support plant and equipment
    • • Motor vehicles
    • • Port maintenance activities at the out ports.
  • • Supervise the activities of the Mechanical, Electrical and Building sections and schedule work activities.
  • • Oversee the daily operation of the Harbours Workshop.
  • • Prepare requisition and work orders and recommend the purchasing of special equipment and tools.
  • • Direct repairs for equipment and machinery and ensure proper operations of PAJ’s work boats and machinery.
  • • Oversee the maintenance of the Harbours’ compound and the proper layout of equipment and material.
  • • Ensure the workers follow proper safety and equipment procedures.
  • • Prepare and submit monthly reports on workshop activities.
  • • Liaise with port operators in planning port maintenance.
  • • Prepare estimates, coordinate and supervise special projects as necessary.
  • • Assist in diagnosing mechanical problems and resolving other technical problems in the Workshop as necessary.
  • • Inspect machinery and equipment and develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules for same.
  • • Maintain records of maintenance and repairs carried out on major equipment and components.
  • • Liaise with the Inventory Supervisor to ensure that spare parts and materials are available when required.
  • • Compile budgetary estimates for the Section.
  • • Conduct performance appraisals for all staff supervised.
  • • Any other duties assigned.

Qualifications

  • • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • • Supervisory management certification PLUS
  • • Five (5) years’ related work experience in a unionised environment, three (3) years of which must be at a supervisory level
  • OR
  • • UTECH Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering PLUS
  • • Seven (7) years related work experience in a unionised environment, three (3) of which must be at a supervisory level
  • • Class III Marine Engineering Certificate of Competence (Motor)
