Summary

The Junior Legal Officer is responsible for advising and representing the Company in all legal matters through prudent management and ensuring consistent and just applications of the law. The role also requires the preparation of contracts, review of third-party contracts and lease agreements, conducting of legal research and preparation of legal memoranda; prepare court documents; assist the Department in handling litigation matters, prepare legal opinions for the Board and well as assist with the managing of the governance and compliance responsibilities of the Company and its subsidiaries.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the Head of Legal, Governance, and Compliance regarding all legal matters pertaining to the Company and its Subsidiaries to ensure the efficient operation of the Legal, Governance & Compliance Department.
  • Provide administrative support for governance and compliance matters to ensure the efficient operation of the Legal, Governance & Compliance Department.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance with legal requirements in all drafted documents.
  • Conduct legal research on various matters, including but not limited to regulatory compliance, industry standards, and case law.
  • Conduct legal research and due diligence checks with external entities such as the Bank of Jamaica, Companies Office, and JIPO, among others, to ensure the smooth running of the Legal, Governance & Compliance Department.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements from the Bank of Jamaica, including but not limited to filing all required documentation, staying updated on changes, and working alongside the BoJ for timely audit completion.
  • Assist in ensuring the company's operational and compliance functions align with regulatory requirements, including the initiation, implementation, review, update, and maintenance of policies, processes, and procedures related to Know Your Customer (KYC), Know Your Employee (KYE), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and other regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in ensuring the completion and timely submission of all regulatory reports to the responsible bodies.
  • Assist in developing and updating policies, procedures, and programs related to Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter-Financing of Terrorism (CFT), and Counter-Proliferation Financing (CPF) compliance.
  • Manage and maintain the legal filing system in an efficient and accessible manner.
  • Manage and maintain the Governance and Compliance filing system.
