Airport Dining Construction Coordinator (Contractor)
Summary
The Airport Dining Construction Coordinator supports the Construction Leader in coordinating construction activities for airport restaurant projects across various countries. This role involves traveling to active construction sites, gathering requirements from concession managers, managing relationships with contractors and subcontractors, and ensuring that construction progress aligns with established timelines. The coordinator advises on materials, handles on-site adjustments, and reports progress to the Construction Leader.
Responsibilities
- • Coordinate day-to-day construction activities when visiting, ensuring tasks are progressing according to the schedule provided by the Construction Leader.
- • Conduct regular site visits to monitor construction progress and identify any discrepancies between planned and current timelines.
- • Communicate on-site developments, challenges, and changes directly to the Construction Leader for decision-making and resolution.
- • Facilitate communication between contractors, subcontractors, and the Construction Leader to ensure everyone remains informed and on track.
- • Relay decisions and directives from the Construction Leader to on-site teams, ensuring proper implementation of instructions.
- • Provide recommendations regarding material selection and any required on-site adjustments based on project conditions.
- • Implement on-site changes as directed by the Construction Leader, ensuring these adjustments are communicated to all relevant stakeholders.
- • Prepare detailed weekly reports documenting construction progress, delays, material usage, and any on-site challenges.
- • Ensure the Engineering team is kept fully informed of all significant developments, with clear and concise updates on current site conditions.
- • Ensure that all on-site construction activities comply with local building codes, airport regulations, and safety standards.
- • Monitor workmanship quality on behalf of the Engineering team, ensuring all work meets the company's standards.
- • Assist in identifying any potential risks or challenges and promptly communicate them to the Construction Leader.
- • Support the Construction Leader in coordinating schedules and ensuring project timelines are and achievable.
- • Provide input on post-construction evaluations and assist in gathering feedback from on-site teams and contractors.
Desired Traits and Characteristics
- • Frequent travel: Must be able to travel regularly to active construction sites, both domestically and internationally.
- • Prolonged standing and walking: Ability to stand, walk, and move around construction sites for extended periods of time.
- • Climbing and navigating construction areas: Must be able to climb ladders, scaffolding, and navigate even terrain on construction sites.
- • Lifting and carrying: Occasionally required to lift and carry materials or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
- • Visual and audit acuity: Adequate vision and hearing to inspect construction progress, read blueprints, and communicate effectively in noisy environments.
- • Manual dexterity: Ability to use tools, handle paperwork, and operate computers and mobile devices for reporting and communication.
- • Exposure to outdoor elements: Must be able to work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind, depending on the location and stage of construction.
Qualifications
- • Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in construction coordination, particularly in the hospitality or retail sector.
- • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to effectively relay information between on-site teams and the Construction Lead.
- • Strong knowledge of construction processes, including scheduling and materials management.
- • Willingness to travel internationally as needed.
- • Proficiency in construction management software and reporting tools.
- • A strong command of English and a valid US visitor visa are preferred.
Additional Information and Instructions
- • This is a contractor position for 6 months, with the possibility of an extension for an additional 6 months and a strong likelihood of eventually becoming a permanent role.
- • The contractor is responsible for providing their own work equipment, including a computer and telephone.
- • Corporate travel is typically scheduled during the week, depending on business needs. Destinations include construction project sites currently underway in South America, Central America, and some Caribbean islands. Having a US visa is highly preferred.
- • All corporate travel expenses, such as airfare, accommodations, meals, and roaming charges, will be reimbursed.
The position requires domestic and international travel up to 50%-70% of the time. The role requires moving between business locations locally for example between the office and locations located within the airport and surroundings.
