Logistics Supervisor
Summary
The logistics supervisor is responsible for leading and directing a logistics department. Specific duties of the logistics supervisor include negotiating transportation vendor contracts, engaging in performance management and taking part in regulatory compliance related issues. The incumbent is also expected to prepare proposal work statements and specifications; establish and monitor adherence to program plans and schedules as well as identify program problems and obtaining solutions.
Responsibilities
- • Supervise any employee who works in the logistics and provide guidance on company policy, procedures etc.
- • Allocate, manage and communicate staff resources according to the changing needs.
- • Monitor the quantity, quality and cost efficiency of the movement and storage of goods.
- • Examine purchase orders and compare with records, such as manifests, invoices, or orders, to verify accuracy of incoming or outgoing shipment.
- • Coordinate and control the order cycle and associated information system.
- • Develop the business by gaining new contracts, analysing logistical problems and identifying solutions.
- • Prepare applications for the necessary importation permits.
- • Examine bills of lading, and shipping orders to determine if express release or otherwise. Determine shipping method for materials, using knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.
- • Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, and damages and discrepancies, for reporting, accounting, and recordkeeping purposes. Contact carrier representative to make arrangements and to issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials. Confer and correspond with establishment representatives to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages, and non-conformance to specifications. Compute amounts, such as shipping, storage, and demurrage charges, using calculator or price list.
- • Liaise with and inform internal departments regarding container arrivals, clearance dates or any delays.
- • Inform warehouse on a weekly basis regarding bonded shipment clearance.
Required Skills
- • Must have strong knowledge of shipping Administration by Air, Road, Sea.
- • Must have strong awareness of strategic response to external influences such as legislation and other environmental factors.
- • Must have a strong understanding of Airway Bills, Bills of Lading, Customs Clearance and other documentation used in import, export
- • Good experience in people management and interpersonal skills
- • Strong organizational skills
- • Ability to work well under pressure to strict deadlines
- • Strong MS Office skills
- • Self-motivated, results driven, ability to gain respect and work well in a team environment
- • Ability to get results from staff and motivate them to achieve
- • Positive, energetic and approachable
- • Proven ability to cut costs and meet office budgets
Qualifications
- • Minimum of 2 years Office Management within a Shipping, Freight Forwarding or Logistics company.
