Summary

Reporting to the Registered Nurse Manager, Registered Nurse (Blood Bank) is responsible for providing high-quality care to blood donors and ensuring the safe collection, storage, and handling of blood donations. This role involves donor recruitment, screening, collection, and post-donation care, as well as education and support for donors.

Responsibilities

• • Adhere to all protocols, procedures, and regulations related to blood donation and transfusion services.
• • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, including infection control and OSHA standards.
• • Maintain accurate and confidential donor records.
• • Work closely with the Blood Bank team, including other nurses, phlebotomists, and administrative staff.
• • Coordinate with physicians and healthcare providers as necessary.
• • Assist in organizing and managing blood drives and donor recruitment events.
• • Conduct pre-donation screenings, including medical history and physical assessments, to determine donor eligibility.
• • Educate potential donors about the donation process, benefits, and eligibility criteria.
• • Recruit and retain regular donors through community outreach and educational programs.
• • Perform venipuncture for blood collection, ensuring donor safety and comfort throughout the process.
• • Monitor donors during and after the donation process for any adverse reactions or complications.

Qualifications

• • Bachelors Degree in Nursing at an accredited institution
• • Registration with Nursing Council in Jamaica
• • Basic Life Support certificate would be an asset
