
Compliance Officer – Risk And Compliance Department
Summary
The Compliance Officer is responsible for delivering robust research to support policy decisions within the Credit Union, as well as reviewing, developing, and implementing internal policies in line with regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- • Review and assess laws and regulations which may impact of the Credit Union and make recommendations for action to the Senior Risk and Compliance Officer and/or Risk and Compliance Manager.
- • Review, develop, and implement internal policies in line with regulatory requirements.
- • Review and analyse departmental and management reports and conduct post implementation analysis to assess the effectiveness of policies.
- • Conduct assessments and background research to for policy development and help to determine how the Credit Union should respond to emerging issues and regulations.
- • Conduct statistical analyses using available software tools.
- • Draft presentations summarizing policy issues and research conducted and assist in the preparation of written reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- • Provide advice on the Credit Union’s compliance with laws and regulations through detailed reports.
- • Manage the development of a system for identifying and tracking timely policy issues within the organization.
- • Be a point of contact on legislative, regulatory and policy issues within the Credit Union.
- • Keep up to date with developments in legislation, best practice, competitor activity and relevant new initiatives in the financial sector.
- • Work closely with other teams within the organization and key external stakeholders to develop integrated influencing activities.
- • Create and manage effective action plans in response to audit discoveries and compliance violations.
- • Ensure all employees are educated on the latest regulations and processes.
- • Assist in developing and implementing an annual compliance plan including systems and controls to ensure the Credit Union complies with statutory and regulatory requirements and guidance.
- • Review all critical requirements ensuring compliance to statutory and internal requirements.
- • Performs regular compliance testing to ensure the effectiveness of implemented compliance controls, utilizing all designated laws and regulations applicable.
- • Investigate, report and ensure compliance of staff with all Policies, Procedures, Rules, Regulations and Reporting Requirements governing the Credit Union.
- • Assist in the analysis of regulatory compliance risks and the development of control recommendations.
- • Work with Internal Audit Department to ensure a high standard of legal and regulatory compliance for the Credit Union and to ensure cooperation with outside regulators on consumer compliance regulatory examinations.
- • Maintain effective communication with all Credit Union employees to ensure coordination and exchange of information for accomplishing Credit Union goals.
- • Conduct compliance reviews in accordance with established standards and practices. Determine and establish standards and practices if they do not exist currently.
- • Perform other related duties assigned from time to time.

Qualifications
- • Undergraduate degree in an appropriate discipline (Banking and Finance, Law, Economics/Business related) or equivalent from an accredited training institution.
- • Specialized training in areas such as POCA, KYC, AML, FATCA, etc.
- • Two (2) years’ experience in a similar position or related field
