
Technician
Summary
The Technician is responsible to conduct routine tests and calibrations and assist with technical duties in testing and calibration, maintenance of physical standards, equipment repair and maintenance to achieve the departmental objectives.
Responsibilities
- • Prepare test items and make the necessary preparation in accordance with the procedures and work instructions for the laboratories to which he/she is assigned.
- • Conduct routine tests and /or calibrations according to standard methods and established procedures.
- • Perform and record routine maintenance on calibration and testing equipment according to schedule.
- • Draft reports for examination by supervisors
- • Assist in development projects for the laboratories, including the fabrication of rigs to facilitate tests and calibrations.
- • Be aware of the requirements of the quality system and perform duties within these requirements.
- • Cross checking of test and calibration results.
Required Skills
- • Working knowledge of the Standards and Weights and Measures Act
- • Knowledge of calibration systems, practices and procedures
- • Knowledge of maintenance systems, practices and procedures
- • Knowledge of technical report writing
- • Knowledge of quality management systems
- • Ability to meet stipulated deadlines
- • Ability to multi-task
- • Ability to demonstrate initiative
- • Excellent trouble-shooting skills
- • Good interpersonal skills
- • Good written and oral communication skills
- • Good customer service attitude
- • Willingness to assist
Qualifications
- • Diploma in Mechanical from a recognized tertiary institution or an Associate Degree in Engineering of a relevant discipline or technical equivalent.
Experience:
- • One-year related experience in a laboratory environment would be an asset
