
Pharmacy Technician (Barbican)
Summary
This position is responsible for preparing medications for patient consumption under the general supervision of a licensed pharmacist and in accordance with standard departmental procedure. Technicians usually perform routine tasks to help prepare prescribed medication, such as counting tablets and labeling bottles. Must be able to interpret written prescriptions, perform pharmacy calculations, and maintain efficiency and accuracy even when the pharmacy is busy.

Responsibilities
The following are specific responsibilities and contributions critical to the successful performance of the position:
- • Ability to prepare prescriptions efficiently and accurately.
- • Experience in managing inventory and handling OTC enquiries.
- • Dispensing prescriptions
- • Interpreting, screening and resolving any discrepancies under the guidance of the Pharmacist.
- • Ensure maintenance of adequate supply of pharmaceutical items paying close items to stock rotation and
- • monitoring of expiration dates.
- • Enter-access and verify data accuracy in computer system
- • Contribute to high efficient work flow of the pharmacy by maintaining a high productivity level and
- • error-free work delivery
- • Establish and maintain patient profiles
- • Provide a high level of customer service to external and internal customers
- • Ensure familiarity with common pharmacy practices, concepts and procedures
- • Replenish shelves daily from excess stock and make note of low stock for re-ordering.
- • Compound mixtures or medications (e.g. oral suspensions, topical ointments and/or creams).
- • Pre-package bulk medications.
- • Maintain an awareness of developments in the community and pharmaceutical fields that relate to job
- • responsibilities and integrate them into practice.
- • Assist other pharmacy technicians.
- • Maintain knowledge of loss prevention techniques including monitoring of expired goods.
- • Receive ordered stock and assist with packing of new goods received.
- • Maintain areas/shelves designated for cleaning
- • Assist with cashiering in dispensary as the need arises.
- • Liaise with Purchasing dept. in Montego Bay for coordination of purchases and inventory activities
- • Pricing of all goods received on a timely basis.
- • Ensure that all items on the shelves have correct prices.
- • Request goods from other location on a weekly basis or as needed to replenish stock
- • Performs other duties which may be assigned by the pharmacist or supervisor
Qualifications
- • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
- • Certified Pharmacy Technician (from a recognized institution)
- • At least 2 years’ experience as a Pharmacy Technician
- • High School Diploma
