Data Engineer
Summary
As a Data Engineer at BCIC, you will be responsible for building, maintaining, and optimising scalable data pipelines and infrastructure. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ingest, transform, and provision data that supports analytics, reporting, and digital innovation initiatives.
Responsibilities
The scope of this job encompasses but not limited to:
- β’ Design, build, and optimize reliable data pipelines, ETL/ELT workflows, and APIs to support analytics and business intelligence use cases.
- β’ Collaborate with stakeholders to gather data requirements and deliver data solutions that enable faster, data-informed decisions.
- β’ Integrate structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data from diverse internal and external sources.
- β’ Implement and maintain data models and cloud-native data warehouses, Snowflake, SQL Server Analysis Services.
- β’ Conduct root cause analysis on internal and external data/processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
- β’ Ensure data governance, quality, security, and compliance standards are upheld throughout the data lifecycle.
- β’ Develop reusable frameworks and tools to automate data processing and improve reliability and efficiency.
- β’ Partner with developers and analysts to deliver end-to-end data solutions and ensure alignment with enterprise data architecture.
- β’ Monitor and maintain system performance and troubleshoot issues in production data environments.
Required Skills
- β’ Proficiency in building scalable and secure data pipelines.
- β’ Strong understanding of data modeling (dimensional and relational).
- β’ Experience with cloud-based architectures, microservices, and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) is an asset.
- β’ Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD pipelines.
- β’ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- β’ Effective communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- β’ Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an agile environment.
- β’ Passion for continuous learning and keeping up with data technology trends.
Qualifications
- β’ A university degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- β’ Advanced certifications in cloud data platforms (e.g., Microsoft Azure, AWS, GCP) or data engineering tools are a plus.
- β’ Minimum 2 β 4 years experience in data engineering or data infrastructure roles.
- β’ Proven experience with SQL Server, Analysis Services, Python, DBT, and Fivetran in a professional setting.
- β’ Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, dbt, Talend, DBT, Fivetran) and data orchestration frameworks.
- β’ Working knowledge with data warehousing concepts and tools (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Snowflake, BigQuery).
