Building Officer (SOG/ST 6)
Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Chief Engineering Officer, the Building Officer is responsible to enforce, guide, and promote orderly Building and Development activities within the parish as stipulated within the Development Order and Town and Country Act 1957. 💰Salary: $5,198,035 - $6,990,779 per annum
Responsibilities
- • Receive and assess Building Applications and Subdivision applications;
- • Execute Stop Orders and Enforcement Notices on persons carrying out illegal building operations;
- • Prepare estimates and contract documents for work to be done on the Corporation's buildings;
- • Make site visits and make recommendations for building approvals;
- • Carry out steelwork inspections on approved structures on sites;
- • Monitor and supervise work done on the Corporation's buildings;
- • Attend meetings as instructed by the Chief Engineering Officer, e.g., Building and Development, Poor Relief, Disaster Preparedness Committee, etc.;
- • Prepare payment vouchers for work done;
- • Inspect and make recommendations for retentions to be paid for work done;
- • Monitor the movements of Building Applications from the Registry at the Corporation to the Medical Officer of Health's Office;
- • Monitor activities of Life Guards at Public Beaches;
- • Prepare drawing specifications for all building works proposed by the Corporation;
- • Monitor activities of Watchmen at Corporation's buildings;
- • Forward information regularly and on time so that a proper written report can be made for relevant Committee Meetings;
- • Submit to the Chief Engineering Officer, at least three (3) days before Committee Meetings, all processed plans for building and other relevant information after site inspections;
- • Make periodical checks on illegal structures to ensure that persons abide by Notices served on them;
- • Promote orderly development within the parish as it relates to the Corporation's laws and bylaws, and ensure that land listed in the Development Order Area is used only for what is specified;
- • Attend meetings of Non-Governmental Organizations, Neighborhood Watch, and other Community Organizations, representing the Chief Engineering Officer.
Other:
- • Any other related duties that may be assigned by the Chief Engineering Officer or any other senior officer vested with his/her administrative authority from time to time.

Qualifications
- • Bachelor of Science Degree in Structural Engineering/Building Technology or equivalent
- • Project Management training
- • Three (3) years related experience
