Health & Safety Coordinator
Summary
The Health & Safety Coordinator is responsible for driving meaningful improvement in the safety orientation of Jamaica Aggregates (JamAgg). The Health & Safety Coordinator will implement the Health & Safety Improvement Plan (HSIP) for the business across all plants and commercial activities. He/She will train employees on the best practices associated with HSIP standards and monitor compliance across the business. The documentation, analysis, and reporting will be done by the Health & Safety Coordinator in support of key supervisory and managerial staff.
Responsibilities
- • Implement and maintain occupational health and safety regulations in accordance with Lafarge standards.
- • Ensure health and safety policies are in accordance with the latest legislation and policies of the country.
- • Keep management up to date with legislation and submit proposals to implement any new legislation.
- • Ensure all members of staff are aware of and adhere to the health and safety policies.
- • Undertake regular inspections and risk assessments to ensure hazards and defects are rectified.
- • Record, report and investigate all accidents/incidents thoroughly.
- • Ensure equipment/machinery are tested and meet regulatory guidelines.
- • Collect and maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (M.S.D.S.) for all hazardous material used by the company and ensure employees know how to protect themselves when using them.
- • Advise against unsafe acts and conditions.
- • Practice safe working techniques and re-enforce the safety policies, guidelines and procedures as set out by the company.
- • Check workplaces and ensure protective gears are available for all situations.
- • Provide guidance and direction in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) programs to employees, supervisors and management.
- • Ensure contractor personnel on the property are in compliance with the Jamaica Aggregates Limited policies and safety requirements.
- • Ensure inspections by regulatory agencies are coordinated and deficiencies minimized or corrected. Maintain all logs and documentation associated with compliance and regulatory requirements as it relates to Environmental Health and Safety.
- • Maintain the site Preparedness Emergency Plans and Procedures.
- • Maintain filing systems regarding incidents, accidents and safety records (e.g., Days without lost time accident (LTA), number of incidents and types of incidents).
- • Maintain working relationships with regulatory bodies.
- • Coordinate and chair the safety committee meetings for the operation.
- • Manage Team Based Task Risk Assessment and Site Specific Hazard training.
- • Perform any additional reasonable duties as required by the company.
- • Given the nature of our operation, you are expected to work extra hours if circumstances should require it.
