Summary

Under the general direction of the Legislation Processing Co-ordinator, the Assistant Legal Administrator is responsible for providing legislation processing and administrative support services to the assigned Parliamentary Counsel. The incumbent is also responsible for maintaining assigned sets of the Office’s volumes of the Laws of Jamaica. 💰 $1,711,060 - $2,301,186 JMD per annum.

Responsibilities

  • Updates the Laws of Jamaica and their subsidiary legislations, when new pages prepared by the Law Revision Office (embodying amendments and new legislation) are received by removing and inserting pages, as directed;
  • Provides administrative support services to Parliamentary Counsel;
  • Typesets and formats draft legislative instruments and Memoranda of Law;
  • Proofreads draft Bills typed and received from the printer;
  • Assists with annotating the Laws of Jamaica;
  • Prepares Indices to Legislation, as required;
  • Performs any other related duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Required Skills

  • Able to type 45-50 words per minute with limited errors
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access and Excel
  • Able to write 95 words per minute in Shorthand

Qualifications

  • Certificate in Public Administration;
  • Four (4) CXC/GCE subjects including Mathematics and English;
  • Secretarial Diploma from a recognized Institution;
  • Certificate in Administrative Management levels 1-3;
  • Five (5) years related experience.
