Air Traffic Controller Instructor
Summary
The incumbent is responsible for instructional delivery of courses offered by the Civil Aviation Authority Training Institute. This includes conducting lectures, supervising, guiding and assessing student performance, preparing lesson plans, teaching aids, equipment, classrooms and laboratories for the smooth conduct of lectures and; preparing and administering examinations.
Responsibilities
- • Assist in the planning, development and implementation of training courses.
- • Conduct lectures in accordance with duty assignments.
- • Supervise, guide and assess students’ performance in simulation exercises and provide practical demonstrations, briefing and debriefing sessions.
- • Prepare lesson plans, teaching aids, equipment and classroom/simulator rooms for the smooth conduct of lectures and simulation sessions.
- • Assist in the administration and scoring of written, oral and practical examinations.
- • Prepare progress reports on course participants and make recommendations in relation to performance, aptitude, attitude, etc.
- • Assist in the administration and evaluation of Course Opinion Questionnaires (COQs).
- • Assist in the conduct of conversion seminars for successful course participants before field assignment.
- • Assist in the design, development and conduct of simulator exercises for proficiency checks of operational controllers.
- • Assist in the planning and conduct of seminars for the purpose of updating operational personnel on pertinent Air Traffic Services technological and or procedural developments
- • Participate in end-of-course reviews.
- • Recognize, report, co-ordinate and facilitate the correction of equipment failure or malfunction.
- • Assist in orienting new students to the training environment.
- • Monitor student attendance, achievements and behaviour.
- • Participate in professional improvement activities and in-service training programs.
- • Assist in the preparation and administration of written examinations to field trainees undergoing on-the-job training.
Required Skills
- • Sound knowledge of local and international civil aviation regulations and procedures
- • Sound knowledge of appropriate training technologies
- • Sound knowledge of the role and function of the International Civil AviationOrganization (ICAO) and other international civil aviation agencies
- • Working knowledge of the role and function of TRAINAIR Plus
- • Current/Previous Rating in an Aviation discipline
- • Good teaching skills
- • Proficiency in Adobe Publishing Software and Microsoft Office applications
- • Well-developed human relations skills
- • Well-developed analytical skills and sound judgment
- • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Qualifications
- • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Curriculum Design, Instructional Design, Air Traffic Management or equivalent; and
- • Successful completion of the ICAO TRAINAIR PLUS Training Instructor Course (TIC) Parts 1 & 2
- • Certificate in Microsoft Office Suite applications (would be an asset)
- • Minimum of six (6) years’ experience in Air Traffic Control or an Aviation discipline
