Information Systems Specialist

Summary

The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) invites suitably qualified persons to enlist in the JDF as a Professional Entry Officer (PEO) to fill the following position: Information Systems Specialist

Responsibilities

• • Managing information systems by assessing the department's data processes and procedures, such as electronic assessments, record-keeping, filing systems, and information distribution.
• • Ensure all computers are prepared to facilitate electronic testing.
• • Working collaboratively with the Recruiting Administrator (Testing) to manage the Moodle platform or other Learning Management System software.
• • Troubleshoot any issues that occur during the testing period.
• • Provide technical assistance as necessary during the testing periods.
• • Creating a system to streamline data from the various assessment units into a comprehensive data source.
• • Implementing data storage methods and assisting with the digitization of files.
• • Ensuring information systems are streamlined and working in accordance with best data practices.
• • Assisting Unit leaders with retrieving relevant information from the Department's database, such as bio data, assessment dates, and assessment results.
• • Create a system for identifying impending expiration dates for assessments.

Required Skills

• Knowledge:

  • • Excellent operational knowledge of the Moodle platform.
  • • Knowledge of computer networking.
  • • Strong knowledge of data processes and information systems.
  • • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Suite and Office tools, with emphasis on Microsoft Access and Excel.

• Key Competencies:

  • • Excellent research skills and the ability to interpret analytical data to assess and improve information systems.
  • • Ability to provide technical assistance in a testing environment.
  • • Ability to manage multiple projects.
  • • Must be a team player.
  • • Must perform duties within the legal, ethical, and professional boundaries of the profession.

  • • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work cohesively within a diverse community.
  • • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • • Good judgment and the ability to be proactive.

• Attitude:

  • • Must have and demonstrate the aptitude and desire to assimilate to military life.

Qualifications

• • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Systems, Information Systems, or similar fields from an accredited tertiary-level institution.
• • At least two (2) years' experience in a similar capacity.
• • Experience working with the Moodle software.
• • Experience working in an academic-based computer lab would be an asset.

• Military Standards:

  • • In addition to the academic qualifications and competencies, candidates must be able to pass the assessment requirements for enlistment in the JDF.
