System Administrator
Summary
Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) in collaboration with eGov will be engaging two (2) System Administrators to provide technical support to include the provisioning of virtual server infrastructure Installation and configuration of servers (Web, Application and Database). The main objectives of the assignment are to: ✅Increase the capacity and capabilities of eGovJa by acquiring System Administrators that will provide technical support to TAJ’s ICT infrastructure and its application environments. 💰Basic Salary: $6,333,300 JMD per annum.
Responsibilities
Scope Of Work:
- • Provisioning of virtual server infrastructure
- • Installation and configuration of servers (Web, Application and Database) aligning to architecture patterns associated with creating highly available services
- • Facilitate application deployment (automated and manual), aligning to DevOps principles
- • Conduct Infrastructure Lifecycle Management, including patch and vulnerability management
- • Ensuring mechanisms for business continuity are in place, tested and documented
- • Maintain an understanding of system specifications and how they may impact on computing environments and infrastructures
- • Infrastructure monitoring and event management aimed at ensuring systems operate within accepted parameters
- • Facilitate knowledge sharing workshops with TAJ counterparts to build capacity within TAJ.
Key Technical Duties:
- • Designs, develops and implements safe, effective and reliable OS and middleware solutions to the levels of service requested by our clients.
- • Identifies and implements industry standards, best practices and emerging technologies to manage and monitor access to and use of the computing environment.
- • Advises the relevant manager on the technical specification, security and access protocols of devices and sub-systems to be included in the computing environment.
- • Liaises with vendors of various information technology systems in determining technologies and their suitability.
- • Liaises with contractors for the proper installation and servicing of OS and middleware systems.
- • Develops prototypes of solutions for assessment.
- • Conducts research on technology trends and submits reports and recommendations on significant findings for follow-up evaluation.
- • Collaborates with departments in developing and maintaining system requirements that determine the ultimate deliverables
- • Analyzes user requirements.
- • Researches technologies best suited to provide the total integrated solution to meet the customer’s business need.
- • Tests OS and middleware systems to ensure that a quality solution is accepted.
- • Makes relevant recommendations & configuration changes for system improvement.
- • Assists in the technical evaluation of tenders/bids from vendors/contractors for the supply and/or installation of products and/or services for the clients of the company or the company itself.
- • Analyzes the overall system specifications and how they may impact on given computing environment infrastructures.
- • Implements and tests backup and recovery procedures for the various technologies under management.
The principal Project deliverables are:
- • OS and middleware solutions designed, developed and implemented
- • Prototype solutions assessed and developed
- • Researched on technology trends conducted
- • Users requirements analysed
- • OS and middleware systems tested to ensure that a quality solution is accepted
- • Recommendations & configuration changes for system improvement made
- • System specification analysed
- • Systems backup and recovery procedures tested and implemented
Coordination and Supervision:
- • The System Administrators will report to the assigned eGovJa Manager or designate who will have overall responsibility for ensuring the quality and timeliness of the deliverable of this Consultancy.
- • The reporting schedule, medium and content of reports will be determined by the eGov Manager in collaboration with the Chief ICT Officer - TAJ or designate
- • The System Administrators will be working closely with the TAJ’s respective IT Experts and the TAJ’s Business Requirement Unit.
- • The Consultant will work with other public sector and private sector entities, as required, to determine resource requirements to achieve the project deliverables

- • VMWare ESXI
Specific Technical Requirements:
- • Expert knowledge of maintenance of computer equipment;
- • Extensive knowledge of systems implementation and data security;
- • Extensive knowledge of the operations of computer systems;
- • Comprehensive knowledge of hardware and software support and maintenance in various environments i.e. UNIX, Windows OS, SQL Server, SharePoint, Windows Server, Microsoft Office suite/packages, etc.
Required Skills and Specialized Techniques:
- • Excellent planning, organizing and problem solving skills;
- • Excellent time management skill;
- • Hardware communication, team and interpersonal skills;
- • Hardware troubleshooting skill.
- • Strong analytical and data gathering skills.
Qualifications
- • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline
- • At least Four (4) years of experience in OS and middleware management, solution design, configuration and maintenance.
- • Training in Systems Management and Troubleshooting
- • Certification in OS and middleware solution design and troubleshooting is desirable, e.g: MCSE, RHCE.
- • Extensive knowledge of Linux, Windows desktop and server OS and enterprise-class Unix OS.
- • Appreciation of basic networking concepts
