Taxpayer Accounts Officer (Level 4) - Port Morant Tax Office
Summary
To maintain taxpayers’ accounts by making the necessary adjustments and correction from work items or irregularities and discrepancies identified from Collections, Compliance, Taxpayer Service and Audit Unit. 💰Salary: $4, 266,270 – 5,737,659 JMD per annum
Responsibilities
- • Logs into taxpayers’ accounts and executes the necessary corrections on the system via work item (generated automatically or manually created);
- • Keeps abreast of new legislation governing the filing of tax returns in order to properly interpret and analyse returns received;
- • Retrieves Returns filed online as well as from batches collected and examines them to ascertain correct processing;

- • Receives from Manager corrections to be made from the Compliance, Taxpayer Service and Audit Unit;
- • Notifies taxpayers of errors and advises them of documentation to be submitted for the necessary corrective measures to be undertaken;
- • Does all other corrections necessary to rectify the taxpayers’ accounts;
- • Records property tax adjustments made daily where applicable;
- • Makes corrections to the Property Tax System;
- • Provides assistance with online registration and filing return online where applicable;
- • Taxpayer enquiry cases closed;
- • Responds to web message queries;
- • Prepares Monthly Taxpayer Accounts Report;
- • Compiles reports/documents for Revenue Accounts;
- • Supports the identification and management of risks within the organization and by extension the respective area of work;
- • Performs any other related duties assigned by Manager.
This job is satisfactorily performed when:
- • Taxpayers’ accounts are properly analysed and accurately restored to the correct state within the required timeframe;
- • Work items are accurately corrected within the agreed timeframe;
- • All other errors are properly corrected within the stipulated time.
Required Skills
Specific Knowledge:
- • Working knowledge of the operations and functions of Tax Administration Jamaica;
- • Working knowledge of the Code of Conduct;
- • Working knowledge of accounting principles and procedures;
- • Working knowledge of the relevant tax laws (especially as it relates to filing of returns);
- • Comprehensive knowledge of all the relevant computer systems and applications;
- • Working knowledge in correct completion of tax returns.
Required Skills and Specialised Techniques:
- • Excellent customer service skills;
- • Good use of initiative and analytical skills;
- • Good time management skill;
- • Keen eyes for details
Qualifications
- • BSc. Degree in Accounts or Management Studies or equivalent;
- • Two (2) years’ work experience in a related field.
