Senior Economist (Level 14)
Summary
Applications are invited from suitably qualified members of staff to resource the position of Senior Economist (Level 14), Real Economy Unit, Real Economy and Fiscal Analysis Section, Sector Analysis Department, Research and Economic Programming Division.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head, Real Economy and Fiscal Analysis Section, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
General Management:
- • Assisting in planning, organizing and supervising the daily operations of the Real Economy and Fiscal Analysis Section.
- • Representing the Bank at local and international conferences and seminars.
Representation:
- • Participating in technical discussions with IMF and other external bodies and participating in internal technical and administrative meetings.
- • Ensuring development of Section manuals and assisting with the employment of quality control measures for the production of written reports and adhering to the standard reviewing mechanisms of the Department.
- • Participating in and presenting research papers at seminars and conferences and courses relevant to real sector development and analysis locally and internationally.
- • Liaising with sector industries and experts to ensure accuracy of information and data in the preparation and presentation of analytical assessment of real sector developments.
- • Contributing relevant content to speeches, economic reports, briefs, and publications produced by the Division and the Bank.
- • Preparing research papers on real sector related topics to enhance the Bank’s knowledge base and for publication in the Bank’s working paper series or other peer reviewed journal.
- • Evaluating the impact of real sector developments on the Bank’s monetary policy stance.
- • Developing and maintaining short - and medium - term forecasting models for the real sector variables including labour indicators.
Technical:
- • Monitoring developments in preparing consistent projections for, and analysing real sector developments on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis and advising on appropriate policy action are required.
- • Providing leadership and analytical guidance to staff in the unit and facilitating staff development for improving the quality of output of the Unit.
- • Effecting standard reviewing procedures of the Division.
- • Ensuring the production of all outputs, deliverables and services of the unit.
- • Assisting with the development of operational policies and procedures of the Real Economy Unit to continuously improve the effectiveness of the Real Economy and Fiscal Analysis Section.
Required Skills
- • Thorough knowledge of Statistics, Macro, Micro and Monetary Economics
- • Thorough knowledge of economic and financial analysis
- • Sound knowledge of Macroeconomic Accounting Framework: the System of National Accounts (SNA), Monetary and Financial Statistics, Government Financial Statistics (GFS) and Balance of Payments Accounting
- • Sound knowledge of BOJ Act, banking laws, and other legislation that affects the Bank’s operations
- • Analysis and problem solving

Qualifications
- • Post Graduate Degree in Economics and/or related discipline with three (3) years’ work-related experience with one (1) year experience in applied economics/econometrics.
