Summary

The Credit Solutions Officer, SME is responsible for the underwriting mainly of SME loans to include tasks such as risk analysis, deal structuring, credit pricing and negotiation. The incumbent may be required to interface directly with clients personally or in partnership with a Business Banking Executive throughout the credit decision making process.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare credit applications mainly for business loans in conjunction with the Business Banking Executive, while ensuring that applications/writings recommended for approval are of a high analytical standard.
  • Conduct financial analysis and recommend of terms, conditions, pricing and covenants to provide viable banking proposal within sound credit lending practices as well as, accuracy of content and conformance with Central Bank regulatory requirements and the Bank’s Credit Policy and Procedures.
  • Conduct risk assessment in order to assign appropriate risk rating to customers based on information presented and any other pertinent information that is available.
  • Prepare annual reviews for assigned borrowing customers within the time frame specified by the bank’s policy and/ or requests for extensions where suitable.
  • Analyze non-performing loan accounts and make appropriate recommendations for restructuring and improved management.
  • Verify audited financial statements and other accounting records in order to obtain information regarding the financial health of clients being serviced.
  • Liaise with attorneys, regulators and other entities regarding the structuring of deals.
  • Provide consulting services to Business Banking Executives regarding tracking, and verification of SME loans being processed, in keeping with SLAs.
  • Play an active role in the preparation and dispatch of Pipeline and Turnaround Time reports in a timely manner.
  • Ensure high level of service is maintained at all times and that credit applications are presented in a professional and timely manner as per SLAs.
  • Play an integral role in Credit Policy Manual updates through partnering with the Personal and Business Banking Unit, Credit Adjudication, Credit Risk Management and other units, and ongoing analysis of market trends and conditions and the bank’s risk appetite.
  • Provide training, guidance and coaching to members of the bank’s sales team and credit organization.

  • Knowledge of the Banking Services Act 2014
  • Good Interpersonal skills to work effectively with customers and team members; ability to understand customers’ individual needs and requirements.
  • Knowledge of computer applications used by the Bank and advanced data analytics skills in Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent understanding of macroeconomic data and ability to analyze/interpret results

Qualifications

  • First degree in Management Studies, Finance, Economics or equivalent with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in Banking including at least three (3) years’ experience in credit analysis.
  • Thorough knowledge of the commercial banking marketplace in Jamaica and general knowledge of the assigned market areas, key industries and competitive positioning within the assigned market area
  • Good understanding of the commercial bank’s objectives, thorough knowledge of segment, strategies, structure, as well as its lending policies
  • Good communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills are essential to this position. The incumbent must be able to effectively articulate their views both within the Bank, and externally in the marketplace
