Summary

Under the supervision of the Superintendent, Roads & Works, the Assistant Superintendent of Minor Water Supplies is responsible for the general oversight of the Municipal Corporation's Minor Water Supply Systems. 💰Salary: $3,501,526 - $4,709,163 JMD per annum

Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for the day-to-day management and supervision of the Minor Water Supply Department of the Corporation.
  • Manage the activities of the Plumbers, Assistant Plumbers, and Chlorine Operators.
  • Ensure procurement of materials required to maintain water supplies and for the operation of the department.
  • Prepare monthly reports on the water supply systems.
  • Ensure that water bills are prepared and distributed on a monthly basis.
  • Ensure the prompt collection of water rates from customers connected to the Corporation's minor water supply systems.
  • Investigate applications for water supply and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Ensure that customers receive a continuous supply of potable water.
  • Visit entombments and catchments to observe the general conditions of these facilities and take corrective actions where necessary.
  • Attend to system breakdowns by assessing the problems and making arrangements for trucking of water if necessary.
  • Ensure that water trucks are routed to drought-stricken areas.
  • Redeploy department resources as the need arises.
  • Prepare estimates for contracts, e.g., extension of pipelines, and verify satisfactory completion.
  • Liaise with other ministries and departments regarding minor water supply matters.

  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Sound knowledge of Government Procurement Guidelines and the Financial Administration and Audit Act
  • Good time management skills

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering from a recognized tertiary institution with two (2) years' experience in water systems operation.
  • OR
  • Five (5) CXC subjects inclusive of English A and a science subject, grades 1, 2, 3/A, B, C respectively, with at least five (5) years of experience or training in water systems operations.
  • PLUS
  • Certificate in Supervisory Management
