Summary
To research, produce, and present the news in a balanced, honest, accurate ethical, and interesting way through news bulletins, documentaries, and other factual Programmes. Perform tasks to aid in the efficient production of the news and operation of the newsroom Working Hours: As per roster Due to the nature of your job; you may also be called upon to attend work in cases of natural disasters and states of emergencies and holidays. Reporting Relationship: Directly to the News Manager and indirectly to the Managing Director. It is understood that based on your job you will be working with managers across multiple departments and as such you will be required to comply with all reasonable instructions within your scope of duties given to you by any manager employed to GROVE BROADCASTING COMPANY LIMITED. Employees traveling on behalf of the Company are required to present a copy of the information page of their passport for security purposes in the event the employee encounters any difficulties and requires assistance. General Guidelines: It is a requirement for all News Department employees especially On-Air employees to become familiarized with the Broadcasting Commission Standards, which not only involves setting minimum standards for programmes as provided for in the Radio Re-Diffusion Act but also such other regulations as appropriate. As part of the Licensing Condition, employees are required to observe the Programme’s Department Standard Operating Procedure unless expressly stated otherwise, the SOP applies to broadcast content and employee conduct. Where the SOP has been breached, this may lead to disciplinary action against you. It is imperative that all on air employees recognize their responsibility to protect the brand IRIE FM, not to bring the company’s name into disrepute, and not to willfully use the airwaves to damage or tarnish the reputation of anyone or the IRIE FM BRAND and it’s affiliates. It should also be understood that a breach of the guidelines imposed by the Broadcasting Commission may result in sanctions against the Licensee (Grove Broadcasting Company Limited).
Responsibilities
The incumbent may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth above according to changing business needs and business practices. The incumbent must comply with all internal policies and procedures of the company
News Reporting and Writing:
- • Source and analyze information that is verified and constructed into a compelling story accompanied by inserts and relevant photos.
- • Gather facts through assignments, interviews, research, and sources.
- • Present polished stories, free of spelling and grammatical errors.
- • Collect, verify, and analyze thoroughly newsworthy information.
- • Publish and broadcast news stories.
- • Receive and/or investigate news leads/tips.
- • Abide by journalism's ethics and codes.
- • Maintain notes and audio recordings.
Story Development and Contacts:
- • Develop and maintain contacts to gather newsworthy information.
- • Prepare for live reports.
- • Contribute to the day's output by suggesting story ideas to the producer/editor.
- • Initiate stories by developing fresh angles, follow-ups, or ideas.
- • Stay up-to-date with current events in the 'beat' by studying papers, attending events, and conducting research.
- • Develop story ideas based on leads or as assigned by conducting research, investigating, and observing.
Social Media and Online Presence:
- • Provide frequent and consistent updates on the website, Twitter, and Facebook pages.
- • Make suggestions and implement ways to keep the pages current and interesting, in consultation with the Editor.
Production Duties:
- • Contribute to the overall production of the news or related broadcast, including

Qualifications
- • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or English
- • Proficient with computers and other office equipment
- • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
- • A focus on producing accurate and factual stories
- • Experience as a newspaper reporter or newspaper intern
