Summary

The Junior Accountant at R.A. Williams Distributors Ltd. plays a key role in supporting the company’s financial operations. This position is responsible for accurately and promptly updating financial records in accordance with accounting principles, tax regulations, and compliance standards. The role collaborates closely with the Accountant – Payables & Inventory and the Senior Accountant/Financial Analyst to ensure the integrity of the company’s financial data and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with evaluating current capital expenditures and depreciation.
  • Assist with exploring investment opportunities as well as establishing and evaluating profit plans.
  • Collaborate with other members of the finance team to review financial information and forecasts; make recommendations for improvement.
  • Assist with financial models, forecasting, sensitivity analysis and trends.
  • Perform Reconciliations on assigned accounts to ensure accurate balances.
  • Prepare payroll related document e.g., commission schedules.
  • Liaise with the HR Payroll Unit regarding any discrepancies or changes with the preparation of any payroll related document.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations to ensure accurate cash reporting.
  • Update daily cash flow positions to support liquidity planning.
  • Prepares product costing and receival, ensuring proper recording of inventory values.
  • Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts monthly to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain the Fixed Asset Register, ensuring proper classification and depreciation.
  • Assist with the preparation of month-end and year-end closing journals.
  • Prepare audit schedules to support internal and external audits.
  • Maintain accurate and complete financial records in accordance with internal policies and standards.
  • Assist in the development of fiscal budgets and financial forecasts in collaboration with senior finance staff.
  • Support the identification and implementation of internal controls to improve process efficiency and reduce risk.
  • Compile, analyze, and report financial information to management, regulators, and other stakeholders.
  • Liaise with external auditors and other stakeholders to support audit and compliance activities.
  • Assist with creating accounts for customers, suppliers, and products for the Financial Controller Review
  • Assist with filing of annual and monthly statutory, and General Consumption taxes with Tax Administration of Jamaica
  • Any other duties that may be assigned are relevant to ensuring efficient and viable operations of the company.

Required Skills

  • Working knowledge of financial and accounting software
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting standards
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Excellent time management, with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with attention to clarity and accuracy

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance, A.C.C.A Level 1 (completed) or equivalent qualification
  • 1-2 years’ experience in a similar position
