Clinical Psychologist

Summary

The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) invites suitably qualified persons to enlist in the JOF as a Professional Entry Officer (PEO) to fill the following position: Clinical Psychologist Candidates must meet the following requirements and competencies. Nationality: Be a citizen of the Commonwealth.

Responsibilities

• • Administration of the Mental Health and Lifestyle Department, to include the supervision of assigned staff.
• • Overseeing and maintaining the mental health and wellness of service members and their dependents (spouse and children) while providing psychological intervention.
• • Conduct psychological assessments of clients.
• • Diagnose psychological, emotional or behavioral disorders.
• • Develop and implement treatment plans and therapeutic processes.
• • Provide crisis intervention as is necessary.
• • Formulate, implement and evaluate a range of psychological therapeutic treatment plans specific to the needs of clients.
• • Monitor client progress and review treatment plan as necessary.
• • Make referrals as necessary.

Required Skills

• Knowledge and Technical Skills:

  • • Ability to assess, diagnose, and treat mental health disorders.
  • • Interviewing and psychological evaluation skills.
  • • Ability to conduct clinical psychological diagnostic testing and interpret findings.
  • • Ability to provide psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and other therapeutic interventions.
  • • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
  • • Ability to conduct clinical case conferences.
  • • Ability to produce clinical reports.
  • • Ability to establish and maintain clinical records confidentially and in accordance with established regulations and practices.
  • • Ability to conduct seminars and developmental engagements.
  • • Ability to conduct clinical research.

• Critical and Analytical Thinking Skills:

  • • Strong ability to work independently.
  • • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work cohesively within a diverse community.
  • • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • • Strong attention to detail.

Qualifications

• • Doctor of Clinical Psychology Degree from an accredited tertiary institution.
• • A minimum of five (5) years experience in the field.
• • Be registered with the Council of Professionals Allied to Medicine.
