Summary

The Jamaica Cancer Society is seeking a reliable and courteous individual to serve as Resident Caretaker. The successful candidate will be responsible for the upkeep, security, and day-to-day functionality of the property and surrounding grounds. This on-site position requires a dependable, observant, and safety-conscious individual who will maintain the facility in a clean, secure, and operational state at all times.

Responsibilities

  • β€’ Perform daily cleaning and upkeep of all outdoor areas, including sweeping driveways, collecting debris, and watering plants.
  • β€’ Maintain front lawn and gardens by trimming hedges, cutting grass, and ensuring the landscape remains neat and welcoming.
  • β€’ Conduct daily inspections of the property to identify damage or maintenance needs, including broken fixtures, damaged pipes, fencing, lighting, and plumbing. Carry out minor repairs where possible and report major issues to management.
  • β€’ Ensure that all exterior lights and air conditioning units in common areas are switched off at the end of each workday.
  • β€’ Wash and maintain the appearance of company vehicles on a scheduled basis or as requested.
  • β€’ Supervise and coordinate the collection and proper disposal of garbage, ensuring bins are emptied on time and the area remains hygienic.
  • β€’ Secure the premises by opening the main office before business hours and locking up all buildings, windows, and entry points at the close of day.
  • β€’ Maintain cleanliness of exterior walkways and ensure safe, clutter-free access to the premises.
  • β€’ Respond to urgent after-hours maintenance issues as needed.
  • β€’ Be available for weekend duties, including facility checks, emergency repairs, or special event support.
  • β€’ Assist with moving equipment, setting up furniture, or general support as requested by the administrative team.
  • β€’ Perform any other related duties as assigned to ensure the smooth operation of the premises.

Qualifications

  • β€’ Must be literate, dependable, and respectful when interacting with staff and visitors.
  • β€’ Ability to follow verbal instructions and carry out tasks independently.
  • β€’ Basic communication and teamwork skills.
  • β€’ Strong attention to detail in cleaning, maintenance, and observation of the property.
  • β€’ Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
  • β€’ Physically fit and capable of performing manual outdoor tasks.
  • β€’ Proactive, safety-conscious, and capable of responding to maintenance emergencies.
