Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor, Transport, the Messenger is responsible: For the delivery of mails/packages to the various Customs Locations in a timely and efficient manner. đź’°Salary: $1,439,455 JMD per annum.

Responsibilities

  • Technical/Professional:

    • • Walk, ride motorcycle, drive vehicles, or use public conveyances in order to reach destinations to deliver mail and/or packages.
    • • Load motor bike/vehicles with listed goods, ensuring goods are loaded correctly and taking precautions with hazardous goods.
    • • Unload and sort items collected along delivery routes.
    • • Receive messages or materials to be delivered, and information on recipients, such as names, addresses, telephone numbers, and delivery instructions, communicated via CUG telephone, or in person.
    • • Plan and follow the most efficient routes for delivering goods.
    • • Deliver items, documents, and packages, between various branch/units of Jamaica Customs, and to other Ministries/Departments/Agencies as instructed by Supervisor.
  • Administrative:

    • • Ability to prepare reports of a simple nature.
    • • Ability to understand and appreciate the responsibilities of the post.
    • • Prioritizes and executes multiple projects simultaneously, and follow through on issues in a timely manner.
  • Customer Service:

    • • Maintains customer service principles, standards and measurements;
    • • Identifies and incorporates the interests and needs of customers in business process design;
    • • Ensures critical success factors are identified and meets expectations;
  • Other:

    • • Performs any other duties assigned from time to time.
    • • May be required to provide witness statements, attend court proceedings, and give evidence.
    • • Complies with Health & Safety Policies & Procedures and mitigates and minimizes workplace hazards.

Qualifications

  • • Completion of High School.
  • • Three (3) years’ experience with riding a motorcycle and driving a motor vehicle with minimal accident occurrence.
  • • General Driver’s License.
  • • An understanding of government operations guidelines and principles in operating their assets.

  • Special Conditions Associated with the Job:

    • • Work will be conducted mainly outdoors.
    • • Subject to certain amount of dust, heat and danger.
    • • Exposure to the sun and sometimes inclement weather conditions.
    • • Involves working in a fast-paced environment with on-going interactions with critical stakeholders.
